Hi all, really silly question but I keep reading different things...to make an 18mg nicotine pg/vg base...do I use...

Pg.
Vg
Nicotine (pg based).

Or as a lot of recipes I've seen..

Nicotine base (pg)
Vg.

I really think the second option is dangerous in terms of how much nic it has...but some recipes say you don't need to add the pg if your nicotine is pg based..dafuq?!

Any help is appreciated.

All depends what ratio you want. If you want a higher VG juice, your nic would be PG, flavour would be PG, then you dilute with the rest. For instance for 10ml 70/30 VG heavy @ 10mg

Nicotine juice 72 mg - 1.39ml
PG dilutant - 0.11ml
VG dilutant - 7ml
Flavour (15%) - 1.5ml

To keep things consistent, download ejuicemeup, put in your requirements and it tells you want to add.

Nic bases come in both PG and VG. Which one you use and how much non-nic PG/VG you add entirely depends on what ratio you want your mix to end up at. How much of said nic base you use depends on what strength the base is, and what strength you want your liquid to be. When in doubt, use one of the many juice calculators floating around the forums.

Thanks for the replies. One more question if you dint mind, is nicotine easier to use with a pg or Vg base?

VG is a fair bit more viscous than PG, so the PG base is probable easier to work with. Having said that you can get AG nicotine base as well - that's Aqueous Glycerine, ie Glycerine with about 10% distilled water, which is pretty much the same consistency as PG.

Personally, I prefer AG glycerine, because I never have more than 50% PG in my juices and since most flavour concentrates contain PG it's easier to reach the 50% ratio when using AG nicotine.

Thanks for the advice, dya think if I wanted to make a 50/50 mix I could then use Vg nicotine? I ask as the starter kit I'm buying is a really good deal but the nic base is Vg. So I'm trying to work around it. All I wanna do is make my own red astaire cheaply

Yeah you would fine using VG nic base.
Also give us a link to the starter kit as sometimes it can be cheaper to buy seperately.

Personally i also vape at 50/50 but i prefer to buy PG base as a recipe will tend to use more VG, and its easier to buy this in Boots, where PG has to be ordered off net, and sometimes i am not that organised.

I don't think you've mentioned what the nic concentration is in the starter kit - 72mg, 54mg, 36mg?

And what concentration do you want to mix down to?

I mix 50/50. My first nic base was pg, next bottle was vg. Doesn't really matter either way, as you use plain pg & vg to balance the mix. True, pg is a little easier to work with, but it's not difficult using vg. I just use a syringe with no needle.
It is cheaper to buy ingredients separately usually, though if you're not sure if you'll take to mixing, a small kit can be simpler to test the water.
If you are sure you'll carry on, I suggest buying as large quantities as you can afford. The nic can be a big outlay initially, but it works out a lot cheaper per ml the more you buy.
I get my pg & vg from ebay at just under £5 per litre
