So I've been on here for a few days now, asked a couple of questions and learnt a good amount but realised while browsing through some threads that I have gaps of knowledge in some pretty basic areas, so here goes my stupid list...

1. Sub-Ohm vapes - what is and what isn't one. Hows it differ and what role does it play in vaping? Pretty sure its what I'm using but I don't know why and how it affects the vapour I breathe in.

2. MTL - similar to above could someone dumb this down for me :p

Sorry I get that this is probably pretty plain for most. I look at a lot of stuff and sometimes could do with things explaining to me like I'm a 3 year old before it really starts sinking in.

Sub ohm , just refers to the resistance of the coil really, anything under 1.0 ohm, the name has just stuck since the first "subohm" tanks were released

mtl is mouth to lung, more like the same way most people would smoke a cigarette

Yup, that's all it is really...

'Sub-Ohm' became a thing before variable voltage/wattage as using a lower resistance coil was the only way to get more power. Now we have mods with more power than anyone needs it doesn't really mean quite the same thing. It's just the resistance of the coil, there are low powered pen and pod devices that use sub-ohm coils and high power cloud chucking tanks that also use sub-ohm coils, and you can vape in any temp on a sub-ohm coil in temperature control modes..... so it's basically become meaningless.

It's now used by a lot of people to describe a 'stock coil DTL tank' just to confuse matters further.

MTL, it just means drawing the vapour into your mouth before inhaling, like most people smoked fags ...... but it's used by manufacturers to describe a device with less airflow than a DTL device and produces less vapour.

What something actually means often varies depending on what's being talked about and often Chinese manufacturers will slap 'MTL' or 'Subohm' all over stuff just as a marketing thing. We've been seeing 'for nic salts' and similar claims put on all sorts of things at the moment, coils, devices .... it's mainly nonsense.

@Simon G so DTL would be a product that effectively allows you to breathe through it rather than sucking the vapour/air through.
Think it kind of clears it up for me at least in the sense that I have more of a picture in my head and by the sound of it, it's unlikely to become crystal clear at any point soon.

yeah that's a good way of thinking about it I guess, although if you are taking about a tank's airflow people will often describe it like 'wide open DTL' or 'Quite restricted DTL' ... because there are no 'standards' as such.... and what might feel close to 'wide open' to you, might feel 'quite restricted' to someone else.

Then you have reviewers saying 'It's not real mouth to lung' and 'it's a loose MTL' ... and 'this is a true MTL tank' which unless you know what they are basing that on it's pretty useless.

a DTL device is just something that has a big enough airflow to DTL on, it's almost impossible to DTL draw on a MTL device because there's just not enough air coming through.

It's a bit like the difference between a regular thin rolly and a fat old bob marley, if you've ever experienced those things? :D

Don't be sorry for asking questions, we were all new once. I've been vaping over 3 years and some stuff still confuses me.

I'm just a thick fella though, that's my excuse

Dont worry mate ask as many questions as you like ive been vaping for about 5 years now and still learning as vaping is changing all the time with new things coming out so just ask away we are all here to help each other the best we can....
