when calculating what battery to use is it best to have as much room to play with as possible or be as close to what is needed as possible?

for example with a 0.17 build gives me close to 25 amps based on 4.2volts so would using a samsung 25r be a no no and would be best using samsung 20s (based on using two batteries not one)

I personally wouldn't use a 25r, I would go for the 20s or a vtc5a or best of all the molicel p28a
You are pretty close to the amp limit of the last 3 but still under 25amp so I would be happy to use them, I assume these ore for a mech mod?

I dont have a mech or unregulated but was thinking about getting my first one probably a squonker although if I went for a single battery then I would have my coils at something like 0.25-0.30

At 0.25 you will be pulling just under 17amp, if you look at the link to fogstar above, all the cells have the amp rating in the descriptions, I would still go for the molicel, they seem to last longer than the mah rating would suggest, and the closer to the limit you push the battery, the more stress you put through it and the quicker you will need a new one

And unless you get into parallel or series mods use 4.2 volts regardless of how many batteries your mod takes [emoji16]

yeah I kind of figured it would be better to have more headroom in the battery, Still a bit hesitent to get a mech or unregulated though.

You can get some mech squonkers with some with built in safety features, low battery, short protection etc, the luxotic and the rebirth off the top of my head, but as long as you are careful with your builds and check on a regulated device or ohm reader before you use on the mech you should be golden, and watch your battery for tearing the wrap

am always carfeul with my batteries infact I'm slighhtly OCD about it. I dont rewrap I chuck them out if I see any slight tear.

That's a waste fella....rewrapping is easy....all you need is a hair dryer....I double wrap my batteries for my mech squonker using a thinner wrap( over the one supplied on the battery) for the outer layer.
Mechs seem to chew battery wraps more frequently....well my one does.

I've only had to do it once as I am very careful with them. I dont have much time to myself (although I will in 6 months) so at present I hardly have time to do things even if it only takes 5 minutes. so the bin was the quickest option.
