My second complaint response
Dear Mr Freeborn
Reference CAS-3156150-XDJC70
Thank you for your further correspondence.
Dame Sally Davies was expressing her opinion – while appearing in her professional role as the government’s chief medical officer - and spoke about vaping in response to an open question from Gavin Esler. As she openly stated that “we don’t know the impact” of flavourings, we feel there was no need for Gavin to challenge her further and the interview returned to the main subject – smoking cigarettes in cars.
We understand and frequently reflect on air the opinions of those who support e-cigarettes – but in this instance it was not the main subject of discussion. I can also assure you that your concerns have been raised with the editor of the News Channel.
If you would like to take your complaint further, you can contact Stage 2 of the complaints process, the BBC's Editorial Complaints Unit, within 20 working days, and they will carry out an independent investigation. You can email them at:
[email protected] , or alternatively write to them at the following address:
