Quick question to the elite if I may

What is the difference between nichrome and kanthal? Is one better than the other or is it down to personal taste?

I think the kanthal is the preferred one but no idea why OS

Kanthal has a higher tolerance to heat but can also have abit of a taste to it at first which I guess you could sort by burning it first. Heating it up also makes it easier to work with as it isn't as bendy blimey I sound like I know what I'm on about !

How about silica or glass fibre wick?

I think they are the same thing just different names but I may be wrong. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong though I hope by answering these I've haven't just admitted to being elite cos I'm so not, it's just horses for courses

Ok I might be wrong, I think they have slight differences which affect the temperature you can heat them too. From what I can tell the fluffy wick is probably glass fibre and the rope looking stuff is silica? Both carry a minute risk of inhaling fibres but I took one look at the supplied and thought I really didn't like the look of it. It also looks harder to work with when it comes to feeding it into the tank. Hopefully someone will confirm this or put the record straight

Now I need to get my arse in gear and order some wick and coil and learn how to use the thing!
