ok i have my custard steeping nicely but received a 30ml bottle of rhubarb today and am wanting to make a little rhubarb and custard.
i do really like this at night but not too rhubarby as i hate the stuff lol.
so my question is what do you think would be a nice ratio just so the rhubarb pops through.
i was going to make a few sample batches but was thinking a 3% ratio would be a good starting point.
the rhubarb is from vapers are us if it makes a differance.
thanks all
bob

I'd suggest mixing a 5ml batch of the rhubarb on its own first to guage what percentage a 'hint' is, makes no sense to ruin good custard trying to figure out a mild dose of rhubarb.

As above. See how the rhubarb comes out on it's own first.
I found that the Rhubarb I used was pretty weak stuff, it was as sharp as I would expect, and even gave the "dry mouth" sensation that you get from rhubarb, but it was very lacking in "body" and very easily masked by mixing with a second flavour. My advice would be to be as generous as you dare with the rhubarb.
This was from a generic Rhubarb from "Big Juice", others may carry more flavour. I needed 15% minimum to get what tasted right for me.
After a few trials, I have ended up with a very decent "Rhubarb and Custard" via 15% Rhubarb, 20% Capella V. Custard (v1).

thankyou
it is the capella v1 custard i have its 2 weeks in today and it isnt the best custard i have made to be honest but i will leave it another 2 weeks. my others were that good i had used them by now just testing lol. this one seems kinda sharp on its own but we will see.

CVC is a tad harsh and definitely benefits from a few drops of Ethyl Maltol to tame the spicyness a bit.

thankyou for that.
i did a 100ml mix at 10% to see what % i liked and it is as you say a tad harsh even at 10%. i was thinking of adding some em but wasn't sure if i was doing the right thing.
so i now have 90ml steeping.
what would you say is a good dose of em for this mix?
thankyou bob

I normally use 5 drops in a 30ml mix with 15% CVC, so that should work out at 15ish drops per 100ml, with you using only 10% i'd say 12 drops maximum.

I suggest making a 100% custard and seeing if the rhubarb will clean the toilet :) Seriously, rhubarb is the devils flavour! ;)
