Hi all,

Thought I would say hi and give some back story. I didn’t get into vaping like most people (quitting smoking), mine was a less conventional intro.

About 10 months ago my dad was diagnosed with cancer. Watching him deteriorate brought on anxiety which I had never experienced before. During the early days I happened to listen to a podcast about nicotine (smartdrugsmarts) and felt the pros outweighed the cons (at that moment in time). Improved cognitive performance and relaxation were very appealing.

Vaping felt like the perfect opportunity to mix my love of flavours with a drug that could also improve my anxiety. A few days later I went and bought an eleaf starter kit. I was warned it was more advanced than an ecig but I’m glad I went with it. Since that day, a new hobby (and expense, to be honest) has emerged. I’ve now played with many mods and tanks, rdas etc, and I’ve even had a go at diy vape juice (rather unsuccessfully).

Did it work? Yes. Unfortunately, my dad passed away but I have no doubt the vape helped calm me during the harder times. I also noticed a significant reduction in alcohol consumption. Often, when watching a film or playing PlayStation I would grab a beer, but that subsided when I got into vaping.

Are there any other South West England vapers around?

Hello @Darth_Vaper1 , Nice to meet you mate !!! I'm in the Northwest myself !!!

:hello:and :welcome1: to the planet of the vapes its good to have you here:thumbup: and would like to wish you a very :newyear2:..

Hi @Darth_Vaper1 - welcome to POTV :) Sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad, I had the same so can sympathise completely with you. This was 18 years ago now - things get easier with time but it is a hell of a thing to witness so you have every right to have been slightly overwhelmed by this experience, it isn't something that everyone sees in their lifetime.

If the vaping has helped you through a difficult time then I think that's great. Orders of magnitude less harmful than smoking so personally I don't have a problem with people starting vaping who have never smoked before.

What happened with the DIY juice then? There is loads of info in the mixology section and lots of people on here who can help. It is a massive cost saving so well worth looking into.

Used to be South West, Cornwall and Bristol, but moved away a few years ago. Where in the SW are you?

Thanks for the welcome! I researched forums for a while before settling here. The community looks great and no egos which is always lovely.

I’m about to have a good read through the mixology section. Knowledge is power [emoji6]

My main issue was that I wasn’t getting the wow factor everyone else was raving about. I often pick the most popular recipes of a type I like (lemon cheesecake). I always allowed for the recommended steep time and kept it in a cool place out of direct sunlight, but never seemed to reach a shop bought quality.

I’m in Exeter, but originally from South Wales. I look forward to getting to know more people over time.

Hi Sion,
Welcome to the Planet. As you say slightly unconventional, yet it worked for you.

Hi and welcome.
You'll get more tips and mixing information on here than listening to one mixologist alone so I'm sure you'll get your mixes perfect in no time.
