Overnight a story has broken over at Reddit describing the terrifying situation a Reddit user found himself in when his Smok M80 PLUS caught fire, almost destroying the entire house.

Reddit user, X-Ale_clouds, described the situation, “I had my M80 for about 2 weeks, when after charging it one night it spontaneously combusted and caught my bed and the rest of my room on fire. Luckily I had just gotten up to go the bathroom or I would probably be in the hospital right now. My roommates and I made it out alright, but I lost almost everything I own. And I wouldn’t dream that on my worst enemy. I’ve gone ahead and attached pictures of the aftermath just so people will actually believe me."

That's what happens when you leave something charging overnight. I bet it was not the recommended charger either!

there cant be many people that can say that they don't charge ANYTHING overnight!! be interesting to find out the details of this story(if they ever surface) :D

I wonder just how many mobile phones and laptops have caused fires and not been reported??

It's just the egig fear and loathing of the gutter press and media that want to sell newspapers and scare the population for shock value....

Yeehaa. Two Istick 50w already in this house and a SmokM80 (On it's way from Gearbest).

Least i'll be able to turn my heating off in the winter.

I ve never really taken much notice of this until the recent istick thread , owning 2, that I ve left charging over night multiple times - it has made me think now though - I don't wanna be part of the shoulda/woulda/coulda brigade and explaining to the good lady how I ve torched the lounge or worse......!

Hang on, he was in the bathroom next door when this happened and the M80 is fine with a 2 amo charger. They even advise charging through a laptop safely and they're over 2 amps, no?

He also alludes to the fact he left it on charge unsupervised overnight using a samsung charger- in which case he is an idiot.

Find it a bit convenient it managed to spontaneously combust the moment he got up to go to the bathroom. Very good timing there.

I would love to see the report from the fire service, as at the moment I take my twat comment back as re-reading the article the smell of bullshit is beginning to waft through my nostrils....
