Starter Kit Help For Nic Salts

Hello People,

And please don't overload me with too much information and tech stuff as I can get easily confused!

I am an extremely heavy smoker (110g of rolling tobacco a week) and I am determined to do something about it after a miserably failed experience many years ago.

I forget the kit, including wattage, coil ohms etc, but I was using 18mg standard (freebase?) liquid. However, having looked at this again these years later it looks as though nic salts MIGHT be the answer. This is where I am confused on the right kit to choose.

From all that I have read you need a high resistance coil (1 ohm minimum but higher probably better for salts) and a low wattage, 10W min, 15W max and if above it seems to be pretty much forget it.

Here in the UK at least, the Uwell Caliburn G2 seems to be a fairly top choice amongst reviews for salts BUT it's rated at 18W. This is where I am totally confused.

I am only interested in a starter kit and not a box full of mods. Liquids are an entirely different topic but I need to get my kit as right has I can.

Thanks guys and any input welcomed.

Hi @sizzers and welcome to the planet.
congratz on your first post. has to be a record as you joined a few months before me 7 years ago :D

right, nic salts.
as you are such a heavy smoker when you previously gave up with 18mg was the kit in your hand every waking moment and chugging away on it all day.
if so im not sure salts would be best for you as even using a mouth to lung kit with low wattage im guessing your head would be spinning. been there and got the tee shirt.
only tried salts a couple of times but after 30 mins my head was spinning and feeling nausius.
salts even though only 2mg stronger (20mg) than your previous 18mg are much smoother and taste similar to 3mg freebase so you dont notice it as much on the throat so people chug on them more.

apart from that i know ziltch about them so tagging @DeeDee aka (Pod Queen) who likes her salts.
good luck on your second attempt.
if i can do it then so can you. i started on capstun full strength and smoked for 37 years and i managed to give up overnight on 18mg. ok, i did by shitloads of kit and juice and knew if i had one cig id be back on them and wasted a lot of money so that helped keep me off them.

When I fancy salts I use the UWell Caliburn AK2 (same device as the Caliburn A2), the same device basically as the G2 just without the replaceable coils, you change the entire pod instead.

Great little device with a 0.9ohm coil.

The newer G2 and GK2 I suspect will do the job just aswell, I’d stick on the higher resistance coils though (1ohm or 1.2ohm).

The 18 watt will be the max wattage it can put out, if you use a higher resistance coil, the device should detect this and lower the wattage accordingly.

Good luck!

I have the Caliburn GK2 which is a great device, same coils as the G2 but a different shaped device. If you want loads of flavour either device will do.
There are no hard and fast rules about which devices you should use for salts or freebase nicotine and what one person can tolerate at 18 watts may be completely different for someone else.

You need to make sure the device matches your habits. The actual nic content just has to be enough to get you satisfied. You're probably in the uk so I think 20mg is no problem.

I use 35mg. I usually go through 1ml to 2ml a day chain vaping around 500 puffs. I know people that vape 30-50ml of 3mg. Well guess what they are intaking more nic then I am. That's just simple math.

If you are getting light headed or sick you are intaking too much nic per puff. If you aren't satisfied then you are getting too little.

I don't really like the caliburn devices because there's no actual power adjustment. This make it simpler to operate but it also means that the only way of adjusting your nic intake per puff is changing juice or changing coils which is dumb.

I would suggest something like the aspire favostix which has a full range of adjustment or the vaporesso xros which has 3 power levels.

Use the highest resistance coil first at the lowest power setting it can handle. and work your way up from there depending on how you feel. Check your total juice consumption to gauge how you are doing. At 20mg - 2ml a day is pretty good. 4-5ml is still ok. if it's more then 6 you're really on the higher side of nic intake.

Thanks for the reply but to be honest I never really persevered that much or at least as much has I probably should have, at least in my free time.

It didn't give me the instant nicotine hit I needed and this caused a problem at work as obviously or otherwise I couldn't vape in the office.

Sure, I could have the odd couple of minutes outside but it just didn't cut it. So on my breaks and lunch I was just desperate for the rollies which unfortunately ended up spilling over in to my free time.

I'm not suggesting that salts are the magic bullet - I don't know, they might be. I just don't want to set myself up to fail before I even start following my previous experience.

For the other replies, thanks a lot also and I will most definitely be looking in to these options tomorrow when hopefully I've got a bit more free time.

salts may well be ok for you then as its just now and again during breaks so you can get that quick nic fix. i believe it enters yur bloodstream quicker than freebase.
easiest way is to try a bottle and see. if you get a fuzzy head or feel nausius then youve had too much. just stop for 30-60mins and that usually clears. if no affects then carry on vaping.

reason i mentioned above it may be too much is because ever since i started ive had a kit in my hand almost every waking moment. i get through around 40-50ml a day and sometimes more but i do vape at 50-60watts.

@sizzers the problem with nic salt given what you’ve said about breaks, is that i found it wears off much quicker than freebase nic, and you find yourself wanting to puff more again. i wonder if you’d be better going with the regular 18mg.

but, you could always buy a couple of bottles of each and try the salts out, compare and see what works best.

just don’t go about with tobacco on you, or go and buy any on the fly when you’re out on a break. if you have it the temptation will be to smoke it. the first day or two might be a struggle but it will quickly pass.

Aspire favostix
Vaporesso xros/ mini
Caliburn g2 or ak or ak2

All decent little kits which with the right liquid like others have suggested will give you the Nicotine buzz you need to get of the smokes

Good luck mate your smash it!
