The SVD arrived in the post today and how lovely it is!
What I didn't realise is that you can't just pop into town and pick up a battery from the stall in the market. Pathetic it may be but at 52 years old I have never before needed a rechargeable battery of this type.
Like the man on the stall, I didn't really know what 18650 was referring to but thanks to Phil Busardo I'm now a bit wiser and have ordered an 18650 XTAR and a charger.
I have also read as much on here as I could find that might be relevant but I'm still confused about batteries.
Ignoring 18500s, I understand that the SVD will take 18650s or 18350s or even 2 18350s stacked together.
My question is what are the differences with the various configurations and which is better for what occasion?

While I'm here, I may as well ask about wattage.
I'm familiar with variable voltage from the MVP and am happy with 3.7 to 4.0 with the iClear30 depending on the juice.
Could someone kindly give me a wattage setting to start with until I get the hang of what I'm playing with.

Cheers!

What is the Ohm on your atomiser (do you know?) I vape at about 9.5-10.5 watts on my VW items.

The batteries unstacked will delieve 3.7v of output, whereas when you stack the 18350's you will be getting 7.4v therefore you will need to lower the voltage/wattage to compensate for the extra power coming out of it.

Check out this review and price list...the Efest batteries are great. http://www.planetofthevapes.co.uk/forums/dbtreview.php?do=view_review&id=21&ri=review

Whoa there, DO NOT STACK BATTERIES in an SVD. The circuitry in an SVD Will deliver 3 to 6v regardless of current battery voltage but stacking will burn out the board. I use an 18650, Today I've vaped a mini protank and a half of Snake oil and Half a tank of Raspberry Menthol and the battery is still alive. Using VW you wont really need to know the resistance of your coil as long as its above the 1.3 or so required by the SVD's circuitry. If you set it at 8w (about average fine for most things) then it will deliver 8w regardless of coil resistance (within reason) you wont need to set it every time you change atty's / tanks / clearo's, just off with the old on with the new and vape away...

As for the configurations 18650 is the full Lightsaber - impossible to hide option, but lots of vape time (Big battery)
18500 - Hmm, not sure why you'd bother with them
18350, reduces the overall length by 3cm, put a small dripper on it and you've got something pretty short that you can tuck away easily at the expense of vape time (Diddy battery)

Handy hint, lengthen the body by unscrewing the bottom half a bit to take the pressure off the endcap when you change batteries...

The SVD is a very nice piece of kit and having used mine for several months I found it rock solid and able to handle a few knocks, it didn't do so well after being dropped in the loo but that's a different story.
I'd say not to stack 18350's as it's a bit too much grunt for iClear 30's, Vivi novas, T3's etc, my sweet spot is about 8-9 watts on the iClear 30 @ 2.2 ohms, depending on the juice I might drop it to 7 so I'd say start @ about 8 and tweak it for your own tastes you shouldn't need to move more than + or - 1 watt unless you have a particular taste for something very mild or hard hitting.

As far as battery config I tend to use 18650 around the house which easily lasts well over a day and I pop in 18350 when out and about to avoid looking like I'm on the way to a Starwars convention, the SVD is quite big in the 18650 config, it depends what ohms your atty is but the 18350 on a 2.2 ish atty will last you most of the day unless you are a very heavy user.

I have been using Efest batteries and have found them very good and no real signs of degradation 6 months later, I think a good charger such as the Xtar helps.

Battery finally came today and, having worked out how to get out of lock mode, I'm now vaping BumbleBee's Rhubarb & Custard and working out the sweet spot.
Thanks for all good advice - exactly what I needed.

Initial impressions are that it's heavy but not too heavy and that they could have smoothed off the indents on the battery tube.
