sussed the little barsteward, I was determined mate to get it working tonight lol. no idea if i over oxidised the wick or not, or had the coil to tight but used the method on the link make very lightly oxidised it as well.

That drill bit method off todds video works for me, it just clicked into place for me.

it did for me the first time mate, ive bee watching both again, i think I had the coil to tight as when i was placing the wick in it was moving the coil up and down. I guess i did not have the wick thin enough.

one thing on the link i put up shows you dont have to burn the crap out the SS when making a wick, i followed the vid
quick burn on both sides 20 secs then wrapped it and a further 20 sec burn all done.
