In a pub or renting a hotel room i can accept it, since u should expect to show id simply for the purpose of going there. But any place that doesn't require id, i would never give my real info if its already being abused
I replied with the fact that you may need to show ID in a pub here in the UK as another guy stated you did not.
However I did not want yourself as a US person to think that was strictly the case.
The way it works here is this.
Legally you have to be 18 to be served with alcohol, and there are heavy penalties for any member of staff serving someone under 18, and the landlord could even lose his license.
So if you appear to look as though you are not 18 then you will often be asked to prove you are.
Just to complicate things further, a landlord can refuse to serve anyone, without even having to tell them why, this means that some pubs, and particularly nightclubs can impose their own rule that they will not serve anyone under 21, so if you wish to go to one of those you will have to prove you are.
Also you can consume alcohol under the age of 18, under certain circumstances, mainly if you are having a meal with your parents.
Also in the UK there are different age classifications for films at the cinema, so youngsters will often be asked for proof of age when going to see a particular movie.
The easiest way for them to do this is to apply for a proof of age card, my daughter has had one since she was 16.
Hope this helps you understand things here.
Christ, when I was working all over the US. I thought it was crazy, the differences in alcohol depending what state you were in, driving regulations, windscreen satnav position, etc.
Now I have had to list pub, and cinema rules here, they are equally as crazy.
