Vamo V5 - A couple of useful bits of info - not in the user manual for new owners

Hi GUYZ!

Finally got my first MOD - A Vamo V5.

Have been happily Vae-Ing since Saturday morning and watching
videos and learning all I possibly could about my new 'pet'.

A couple of things not mentioned in the manuals - maybe 'old hat'
to peeps here - but to new users might come in handy.

1) There are two variable voltage outputs that the vamo puts out.
MEAN OUTPUT (This is how you will have received it)
RMS - Root Mean Square
I am not an electronics buff - and RMS seems fairly complicated
However mine behaves itself much better since selecting this option.

I believe that the output of the Vamo is made up of pulses of
6 volts - or this is what I have read and the timing of the pulses
is what it uses to calculate output.

RMS is a different type of harmonic (according to Wikipedia)
and it seems to work better.

To switch between the two output modes press the left button
for 15 seconds

2) Battery Graphical Display

Remove the tank/atomiser/cartomiser.
Press the right button for 15 seconds.
It will start by displaying 9.9 ohms - standard for the Vamo
when not under load. It will then switch to voltage output
mode and give you a look at the exact battery level.

I think that the output of the vamo does not make it brilliant
for charging mobile phones etc and you would need an ego to
usb wire if you decided you wanted to use it in that way
(good luck) and I think the manufacturers decided not to pursue
it. It does give you an exact picture of your existing charge.

The Vamo will not run until the battery is exhausted - it will
give a low voltage warning before that - but it does help you
know exactly how much battery life you can expect if you are
going out etc.

Very pleased with my new purchase. :30:

If I have got any of this wrong - or you just want to say hi

Please don't even attempt to charge your phone with a Vamo, it's not designed for that. If you want to charge your phone with your ecig, get one designed to do it, like the itaste mvp.

I've had a vamo for about 3 months now and I have noticed it performs better if you put in two 18350's rather than 1 18650. I guess that's due to the voltage of two batteries being 8.2 volts rather than 4.2 for a single. It seams to prefer to drop the voltage from 8.2 than boost up from 4.2.

Just read my post should have put 8.4 volts for 2 batteries not 8.2.

I didn't know you could stack these with two 350s

My Vamo came with 2 batteries
1 x 18650 - 2000 mAh
1 x 18350 - 1200 mAh

Both of these batteries were 3.7 volt batteries with button
tops. Is 4.2volt batteries better than 3.7 volts - I assumed they
only took 3.7 volts?

I also wondered what would happen with stacking batteries.

Normally any battery device I have used had a set number of
batteries designed up to the design tolerance of the components
used.

How much can a Vamo take in voltage?

Also I assume that if I acquire another 18350 battery, I should
make sure it is 1200 mAh or can they be mixed?

Just as I thought I had found the light another question
floats into my strained-cranium! :violin:

I've had one for ages now , it's great I got two big batteries with it. Lady's a day just recently bough the two smaller ones.

But I'll no be stacking them. Heard that's a no no

4 months I have had mine now....and truth be told I wish I didn't buy it....threads are going on it..have to use tape on nautilus or nova tanks on the 510 thread to keep it on and fire...can't take out now incase the tank falls off....going to get a MVP instead soon hopefully......be warned they do go....was great at time when fully working.

I know 'stacking' is a no-no in single slots of battery re-chargers.

It seems a lot are stacking them in use and that is OK?

Can anyone give an expert opinion?

Not an expert opinion as such, but the vamo has a high amp level so can handle stacked 18350's.

Rule of thumb is to have a specific 'pair' for stacking, charging them both at the same time to keep them balanced.

A review i watched shows that there is a slight voltage drop with an 18650 compared to 2 18350's.

The trade off being some folks simply feel safer with the single cell.

End of the day it's personal choice, all i can say is i have stacked many a time, and still have both my hands to type this, and my eyes to read it ;)
