Vape terrorists? US D.O.T ban e-cigs from checked baggage

The Department for Transport have banned air passengers from packing e-cigarettes and any other batter-powered vaping devices in their checked baggage. They now want Americans to carry their vape in their hand luggage only. They claim its for safety reasons, but air cabins are pressurised and the hold is not.

I thought it was already the rules that batteries/mods had to go in hand-luggage over here?

Some UK airlines may not allow you to pack e-cigarettes that contain lithium iron batteries in the hold luggage, but some airlines like Easyjet allow you to take e-cigarettes in the hold or your hand luggage.

I thought this was universal amongst all airlines now. All batteries and battery powered devices (phones, laptops, vibrating sheep) must be carried with you and not stored in hold luggage.
The safety angle is that if any incident occurs it can be dealt with in the cabin, but if it's in the hold it will go undetected and almost nothing can be done about it.

Pressurization? Frankly a leaky atty is the very least of your worries. An exploding Lipo in the hold would need a little more than a tissue to remedy.

aviation authority had updated this a while ago.
graphic video's showed the difference between an exploding battery in the hold and the cabin.
bottom line is in the hold theres no one about to put a fire out but in the cabin there is.

This has been aviation law for a long time. It applies to all kit powered by lithium batteries, not just vape gear.

I'll see if I can dig out the videos @MrDJ has mentioned. I posted them earlier in the year.
