Washing Coils

Once upon a time RBA heads were quite common for a lot of these tanks but that seems to have fallen to the wayside.

I've tried washing stock coils in the past, I'm sure there was a thread about it from ages back about how to do it. I just take my gear apart and put everything in a bowl of boiled but slightly cooled water, give it a soak and then wash under the hot tap before another dip in a bowl of boiled water. Then leave to dry overnight.

I found I could get a little bit longer out of the coils used for fruits but it doesn't really do much for the flavour and anything dark or thicker like deserts or tobacco flavours I found no benefit at all. I still wash the coils when the flavour starts to go or when I change flavour mid coil and keep them and have used one or two in an emergency but I'm not sure it's really worth it.

There's been all sorts of madness over the years, like soaking in alcohol to clean etc but the take-home from that has always been, yes you might get a wee bit longer out them, but they never perform the same.

Exactly what i thought @John R , just another vaping habit for the tight fisted among us :p

I tried in the past with a couple of zenith coils. put them in a cup and poured boiling water on, 2 sugars a dash of milk and gave them a stir ...... No wait that was a tea bag, forget the milk and sugar bit..... Gave them a stir and left overnight then left to dry out on the windowsill. As said above I got a bit of extra use from them but wasn't the same as new coil. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to clean a couple and save for emergency, but as your getting into rebuildables theres no need.
as for the tanks that come with kits either just leave them in the box or use the coils that they came with to try the tank first.
The 2 coils I got with the vinci are still in the box, I just waited untill I got the rba before using it as thats how id be using it anyway even if I liked the coils.
so far all my mods have been mod only purchases, but sometimes there's no mod only option or a good deal on kit making the kit the better option. then id have no choice and have a tank i wont use.

Thanks @Frogprince Thats what i tend to do, bought some coils for my Aspire Nautilus AIO Pod Mod as i use that more than my other Mods and Pods, it's been my life saver when i get the craving for the stinkies as everyone calls them. Nice vape with my Tobacco Salts plus i have my Jem stood by as well. Always Prepared dib dib dib and all that.

Oh dear, against the general consensus @LordOdin, I do rinse some of my stock coils out. If the coils are not too far gone, I rinse under hot water, leave to soak in cleaning alcohol over night then give them another rinse under hot water. Then leave them to fully dry out and good to go. Sometimes I pierce the wick with a needle too.
Yes it's a faff but I can get another week or two out of them.
I will add that I dont just vape one mod at any given time, I circulate 3 or 4 during the day with different juices.

@Richard Winter I'm not against it really it's just something i wouldn't do and now that i am doing my own coils (in a fashion) i am going to be even less likely to do it. If someone can get some more use out of it then why not. I have loads of Wire,Coils and Cotton to last me a while so no need to do it. I do prefer to have RDA's to have a Squonk Pin as i think Dripping is a bit tedious and pressing a bottle is less messing about. It's a shame Squonkers seem to be more expensive or the ones i want are so it's going to take me longer to get more.

I'm with @Richard Winter on this one, I do sometimes give my coils a good rinse out using the same method as he does. It's helpful sometimes and can get a bit more time out of them, especially as sometimes the coil is fine its just got a bit funked up. Like Richard and probably everyone here I have various devices on rotation through the day.

I build too mate, I'm guessing I just must be a tight arse lol. I find that some of my coils gunk up rather than burn so giving them a little wash etc to clean and prolong their life is good for me.

I vape at a low wattage compared to many people so in the time i have been vaping i haven't had a coil go bad or fail yet, plus i'm not vaping like a steam train so they are probably going to last me ages anyway, don't like warm vaping at all lol.
