What's new

We all fall for the hype at times !

To look at current offerings you might be forgiven for thinking that vaping is pods, in reality there's a whole world of options out there. Once you settle on your preference it's relatively easy to make more considered purchases with a considerably longer lifespan, which in turn makes the pastime cheaper. That is the true power of the forum, helping with those kind of decisions, not what pod is better, pods are just a subset of the whole. Sure they can be more convenient for a quick nic-fix on the go, but I'd hate to be relying on one to the exclusion of everything else.

what you say is right, but it’s interesting that since i’ve bought one, then another, of these devices i’ve not really had any urge to crack out any of the non pod stuff i have in the cupboard. i think as pods go, these are really pretty good, and for me they are probably almost perfect. i’ve had no urge to crack out mods, batteries, complicated aio devices or any of that. they work really well, never leak and haven’t broken even though i’ve worried they were on the verge a couple of times, and dropped both of them more than once.

granted i mostly use it with the wee rba, but given what the OP says about what he’s used previously I think this will easily meet his needs and avoid constant buying of new and unnecessary devices that will only disappoint in the end.

Have a snoop round the bargain bins, maybe start a post looking for mod and tank recommendations outlining you're looking for something that'd suit MTL, maybe start with stock coil tanks as those are easier.

I wasn't being contrary, I was merely pointing out that these pod things your hand is never out of your pocket.

Shit, I've got loads of spare kit I can send you if you PM me...
John Thanks for that really this life is too short to be bitching over nothing. LOL
I will take your advice mate and if I can ever be of any assistance please let me know as I will help at once.
The Luxe XR max still appeals to me. LOL
Cheers mate. If I can help at any stage please let me know.
Thanks

Don't get me wrong, I have a few, but seldom use them at home, much preferring to use a standard rebuildable tank and a mod, then again, it might just be down to my use -case, preferring NET's which can clog up stock coils very quickly and my personal preference for TC as I hate vaping burnt cotton. As I said at the outset, focus on what you want to do.

The easiest way to make things cheaper is rebuildables that come in various forms but the basics are the same, you have a coil made by winding resistance wire around a rod and a wicking material cotton. RTA tanks are designed specidically for rebuilding.
The initial outlay will be more than a pod kit but in the long run the saving is big.
Lets say your buying refillable pods costing £6 for a pack of 2 and getting 1-2 weeks use from each at the best its £6 a month replacing pods.
With a RTA a spool of wire suitable for mtl costs £3-5 this will last a good couple of years.
A bag of cotton labo or muji cost around £7 this will laat you .... I don't know, I don't think anyone has used a full bag before, I bought a bag 5 years ago and still got loads left.
So £6 a month replacing pods/coils vs £15 a few years rebuilding.

The initial outlay would be a tank, a mod, tools/toolkit, wire and cotton

The only reaaon people don't save is with rebuidables your moving towards the hobbyist side and wont be long untill your head is saying the money Im not spending on coils I can buy a new rta or mod, then a back up kit and before you know it you have a kit for indoors, a different kit for popping down the shop, one for walking the dog, one for morning, one for afternoon and one for evening. And of course you will need backups for all these. But at the end of the day a shelf full of shinies is better than a ashtray full of fag ends.

well...
From my personal perspective pods are EVIL per definition.
But this is my profile deviation and personal phobia.
To elaborate: while I do care about the personal water filter in home, I have chosen heavily discounted Arke (and I do the Lewatit cation exchanger/activated carbon replacement and mix by myself) for a reason.
My biggest disappointment was to find that "boro" devices are NOT glass.
Same is with pods. I am mentally struggling to convince myself to use a device which uses the organic solvents (VG, PG and some flavour species) in the plastic tank.
I do realise, though, that it is something like a long tradition.
It was (for a short time, sadly) popular to announce the asbestos as the most effective filter for the ciggys, so now, perhaps, the successors developed the plastic pods....

PS 1: Yes, indeed, I do replace the EPDM orings with Hypalon ones in the GLASS tanks and I do not use the plastic tanks. "boro" devices after the try - are sitting and waiting until someone will develop boro tanks, not plastic.

PS 2: if yo uthink that asbestos ciggy filters are an urban legend: https://www.asbestos.com/products/cigarette-filters/

You can get boro tanks made of metal, glass would be too fragile screwing in 510 nuts n that,, dropping the thing, same with pods they are cheap for a reason, there would be glass everywhere....it is just not practicable in pods....neither are glass trainers :)

Thanks for that I will 100% look into this as I think I more than capable.
I have never looked into it to be honest but now I will without a doubt.
Is there any sites worth visiting or you tube stuff showing demos for this.
Its right up my street making stuff. I love to know how things work and why it preforms the way it does.
Most stuff I buy , I take to bits to see how it works. LOL

do you not store your liquid in plastic bottles?

Wasted probably at least a couple of grand on rtas, rdas and mod shite since 2012, glad that mesh strips and the Profile Unity came along. Pod kit wise, the Vaporesso Xros range rock. In my experience Innokin pod gear is utter shite, specifically the Sceptre and Sensis, both broke within weeks to a couple of months, including the ones bought to replace the faulty ones.

At least you had something to show for it instead of a smelly ashtray and they're still waiting for you, unlike the pods which reside in landfill... I must have got lucky, all my pods still live, albeit they hardly get used, but the og Argus, puremax and various dotpods are still going strong.
