What do you taste in Snake Oil?

Every halls soothers flavour under the sun

what he said... or aweful as I like to describe it. Then again I hate red Astaire as well so maybe I am just not the best person to get involved :lol1:

Over powering, harsh and not subtle and cleaver, with hidden depth .. just a barrage of harshness .. its ok in small doses, but dunno how you guys have this as a all dayer.

When the postie brings goodies I'll be trying

Gummy Bears (TFA I think)
Anice (FA)
Licorice (FA)
Citrus Mix (FA)
Sweetener
Koolada

I'll see where that gets it before adjusting and adding flavours.. I'm definitely tasting the gummy sweets so I just need to find which one.

I need to buy some new Snake Oil to compare it to because the one I'm comparing to is well aged.

I'd leave out the liquorice - I hate the stuff and can smell it a mile off and there's definitely none in snake oil! The Anise could be giving that impression though.

The gummy bears didn't come with my order :(

From vaping it near constant lately I'm certain Capella sweet Strawberry is used in small percentages.

I tried the recipe in the pic below but it's the wrong gummy flavour (I should of tried it on its own first but got cocky), not enough aniseed or citrus mix.

My next attempt will be more like :

Different gummy flavour?% (unknown percentage until I get the right one) I think I'm after a haribos type of flavour
Citrus Mix (FA) 7%
Anise (FA) 6%
Sweet Strawberry (Capella) 3%
Sour 2%
Sweetener 2%

I'll add koolada once I'm happy with the flavour.

I've tried a fair few gummy candy type flavours now and none of them tasted like what I'm looking for (I have a couple more to buy and try).

This is what I tried today:

After giving it a mix with a coffee frother it tastes like there is too much orange and green apple and not enough flavouring overall.. I'll see how it tastes in a week before trying again.

It's getting in the right ball park now.

And not even a couple of hours later it seems to of smoothed out the flavours.. I've just added a couple of drops of Lime Distilled (FlavourArt), and it's closer to Snake Oil than I expected :) Although there's still a little something missing and not quite enough flavouring.

I'll now leave some alone for a week before tweaking.. (I know I already said that before I added lime :))

This is how it looks at the moment:

Just get the recipe for sweetshop 'Gobstoppers' I used to buy as a kid in 1950's/60's, sorted, which is why I love Snake Oil :diy:
