What do you taste in Snake Oil?

Just get the recipe for sweetshop 'Gobstoppers' I used to buy as a kid in 1950's/60's, sorted, which is why I love Snake Oil :diy:
I don't think I need to now. This tastes bloody close to me.. But I won't judge it yet.. It may taste crap in a day.

I looked at the bottle I got for christmas and it says "contains star anise and limonene" this is presumably an allergy warning and there's more stuff in there. I googled limonene and it seems to be an industrial degreaser?
However the star anise must be the aniseed taste that many people comment on.

These? Jawbreaker

It's gotta be worth a try.

I don't think I was far off with the last try but something is missing.. Possibly this..

Struggling with this one myself, tried the clone recipe from reddit by /u/Eternal_Sunshine but the anise gets a little bit lost under the fruits.

Recipe:

Juicy Orange (CAP) 10%
Juicy Lemon (CAP) 8%
Anise (CAP) 10%
Cool Mint (CAP) 1%
Ethyl Maltol (CAP) 1%

Think the general %s are a bit high, but the Capella Anise doesn't seem to give the same Aniseed sweet flavour as in Snake Oil, anyone have suggestions?

Limonene is a colourless or pale yellow liquid with a sweet lemon-like odour. It occurs naturally in many essential oils, such as lime, lemongrass, neroli, grapefruit, tangerine, oakmoss, olibanum, peppermint, rose, sage and fennel.

anise, capella juicy lemon, menthol, sweet strawberry, tangerine, lime, koolada ( or ecto cooler ) and seeing the above neroli , the smell reminds me exactly of that but not sure its something you could get in vapeable form. as far as im aware there are 9 or 10 ingredients and even if you got them all getting the percentages right would take forever.

i think like many comples juices it will never get cloned . some may come close but getting the whole thing correct in terms of percentages, order of ingredients, the brand of concentrates etc. chances of being right are very slim

Thanks for that bud.. I completely agree with all of that.. I'm working my way through about 400ml of nice juice which is the results of snake oil attempts...

I'm having a break from trying and going back to concentrate testing and maybe come across a flavours that makes me say "that's the missing ingredient(s)" :)

It's inspired the making of a few of my ADV's too..

My next attempt (when I can be arsed) will include a smidge of Grapefruit, slightly higher percentages on some flavours and I'll add most the flavours once the anise has ages for a few days... See what happens.

Anyone else had luck with this?

I've tried the recipe from reddit (juicy orange, juicy lemon, anise and cool mint) which wasn't close at all tbh.

I'd be happy with anything similar / ball park

Have you tried the recipe I posted in post #19?

Its similar but not quite flavoursome enough and a little something is missing.. I'm going to play with it later..

I'm going to add some Inawera Lemon and Grapefruit, add a tiny bit of TFA sweet and tart and slightly increase all the other flavours.

Here's what I tried today.. I know the flavouring percentage seems high but I'm convinced it is in Snake Oil too.

1 Drop of MTS Vape Wizard per 10ml.

It tastes similar right after mixing but too orangey and I think my previous idea of a gummy flavour, like FW gummy bears may be part of what's missing.

I'm close to leaving this recipe alone for a while, it's already nice, just not Snake Oil :) I'll report back after its aged a little.

i tried that one above and its a mile off and was foul.

closest ive got is anise, capella juicy lemon, menthol, koolada, sweet strawberry, and i personally think theres some orange or tangerine in there, a hint of lime maybe and something for the sweetness. maybe EM , or stevia
