What next after starter kit?

Hello all.
I gave up smoking about six weeks ago and started vaping eleven days after that. The shop advised a starter kit and I purchased an Endura T18ii.

I avoid artificial flavours, colours and sugars so asked if he had any natural juices as the writing on the label was too small for me to read. He didn’t know but he made a call which confirmed that he only stocked juices with artificial flavours. I’ve since learnt that is the norm for most vape shops.

I’m really not getting on very well with it. I can only vape a couple of times a day as it makes me feel very nauseous. It also tastes plastic, gives me acid spots on my tongue and coats my teeth meaning I have to clean them after every vape.

I’ve tried two other juices at different strengths and changed the coil several times but it didn’t make any difference.

I found online a stockist that sells 100% VG natural flavours but I would need to add my own nicotine and I’m not yet confident enough to do that, but I would learn how to do it if necessary.
I was advised that I would get a better taste and hit if I used a tank but someone else said 100% VG could clog up some types of tank.

In an ideal world I would have something small and portable (like the above pen) that I could put in my handbag, something that would give me a hit without making any more ‘smoke’ than a cigarette, something with natural flavours and no artificial sugars and something that I didn’t have to fuss about with too much. I just want a simple efficient nicotine delivery system until I can kick nicotine altogether.

I’m now so confused by all the different options and would be eternally grateful if someone could please advice me on my next step.

Hi @Dunmoaning and welcome to the Planet.

this could be a difficult one as almost all juices have artificial flavours and sweetners but now no coloring under tpd law.
100VG wont work in hardly any tank as the coils just wont cope with very thick juice.
100vg is usually used by drippers in tanks called RDA which is a rebuildable deck where you have to wrap your coils and add your own cotton. after 4 years ive only tried one of these a couple of times and gone back to tanks as just too much faff for me.

you mentioning nausia. this is normally caused by too much intake of nicotine. headaches and nausia is one side effect of this. youve not mentioned what strength nicotine you was using or the juice makes and their thickness of VG/PG which should be on the bottle.

looking at the kit https://www.innokin.com/vaporizers/endura_t18_II
it says it takes 1.5ohm coils so these should be best at 50vg/50pg juice and maybe able to take 70vg max (hopefully someone that has used this kit can clarify this).

i use mainly large direct to lung tanks and coils at high wattage and the only small kit ive got that can handle 80vg juice is from Jac Vapour. same idea as fill and vape with no faffing about with wattage settings. they have a offer on their wee Vim at the moment. you buy the fixed throw away pods instead of a bottle of juice and you get the mod free https://www.jacvapour.com/wee-vim-pod-bundle
i use the larger vim at work each day with a tank instead of the pods and this tank can be purchased seperately to fill with your own juice if yu find any suitable.
sorry i can help with flavours any further as all the ones i use have plenty of flavourings and sweetners.

but I would need to add my own nicotine and I’m not yet confident enough to do that, but I would learn how to do it if necessary.

To physically add your own is very simple - open a big bottle and a little bottle, pour the contents of the little bottle into the big bottle, put the lid on, shake.

If you're wanting a 'standard' level of nicotine in the finished juice, it's less complicated than making a coffee.

Thanks MrDJ that’s a lot to take in but very helpful. Looks like the 100%VG is out of the question as I would rather not have a tank unless it’s a small one, and then a small one that requires minimal faffing.

I’m amazed there are no juices (other than VG) with natural flavours and sugars. I would have thought there would be a demand for it but obviously not. At a push I’d have artificial flavours but not sweetners.

The make of the juice is VNS and it’s VG/PG 60-40, so from what you said above it doesn’t seem like that would be a problem with my device. I started on 3mg then went to 6 then 12 to get more of a hit as I’m not using it that often. I’m now back to 3mg as it was all much of a muchness.

This might be a silly question but do tanks spill juice when they fall over? I need to keep any device in my bag so leaky spilly stuff would be a problem.

Edit - that wee-vim looks small and portable thanks. If it doesnt spill I will try and find some suitable natural juice.

Well that sounds nice and simple with little chance of accidental death.

Sorry, I meant to quote pdg but messed up somehow.

How the heck did you manage 11 days - gum or patches perhaps
I was close to ripping people's heads off by the 2nd day of quitting in past attempts

I'm trying to work out how much nicotine you might need probably 11-16mg
but was you a really heavy long time smoker or more of a social smoker ???

Congrats for going 6 weeks without fags

I think you just need to find a juice that works
perhaps a semi sweet tobacco RY4 with a very very slight drop of apple or strawberry if you like
(but not too much or just a mild RY4 on its own)
at perhaps 11mg

You could go for cheapo Maidens Tobacco or other end Manabush

Heck you could go for a plain VG (with a little PG) and just 11mg nicotine
(but think you want some flavour or you will complaining it is a little bland)

The point I'm making is I think you got a good kit for a while
it really is just finding a juice that you really like
(unless the t18 tank is crap which I doubt)
Problem is if you use really strong flavours, even with a new coil, flushing out tank
there often is some taint from previous strong juices that takes a while to disperse
So if you switch flavours, often there will be a slight taint for a little while

From what you have described you might want a subtle RY4 (ish) on about 11mg or just under
(not as low as 6mg if you identify you crave nicotine still)
Though tbh think half of quitting via vaping is the simulation of smoking
(but yeah you climb the walls needing a nic fix too)

Just persevere finding a mild subtle juice that you can enjoy
even if it is a tiny bit bland by some people's standards - better than sickly sweet
bit of nicotine and I think you will get there tbh

If you gave me a Tuti fruity Cola juice when I first started I'd have been back on the fags on the first vape
but I got a so-so mild American blend baccy juice that kinda slightly resembled the stinky fags
so I could stick it out and semi enjoy the vape draw without ripping heads off with a16mg fix

think you just need a mild subtle juice and you will be golden than splash more money just yet
(if you are happy with the T18 ii then just try some more juices imho)

You'll have to get it exceedingly wrong in a very enthusiastic way to die from getting it wrong - like sitting in the middle lane of a motorway while pouring ;)

You mentioned you went back to 3mg, that's pretty much what things have been set up for.

One bottle with 50ml of flavoured juice - tip in 10ml of 18mg unflavoured (called a nic shot) and you have 60ml of 3mg/ml. Otherwise known as a 'shortfill'.

I'm trying to work out how much nicotine you might need probably 11-16

Op has stated they've tried different strengths and gone back to 3mg.

Though tbh think half of quitting via vaping is the simulation of smoking

Within an hour of switching I realised I didn't want to simulate smoking...

If you gave me a Tuti fruity Cola juice when I first started I'd have been back on the fags on the first vape

If you gave me a tobacco flavour when I started I probably would've chucked it out of the window and rolled a fag.

Now, about 10 weeks after starting (and having tried a couple) I still find tobacco flavours gagworthy.

Essentially, this highlights that I'm not you, you're not me and neither of us are someone else.

What worked for you would've made me think "this vaping malarkey really isn't for me", and vice versa.

That's the problem with blanket recommendations - that blanket ain't gonna cover everyone.

Your craving for nicotine doesn't go away just even if you realise you're not trying to recreate the sensation of smoking. In my personal opinion, for some people it's about feeling like your smoking(whilst not) and nicotine stength is less crucial, for others it's about getting some nicotine into their system(to take away the itch) and not so much of the act of sucking on a stick in their hand, others it might be a bit of both. It's always been a bit of both for me, but mostly it's about a replacement experience that feels kinda/almost like smoking, in my early vaping days, 18mg was making me sick but i really need that level of nic to stave off the itch to smoke(i made myself feel crap at times, but kept going all the same). I'm down to 3mg now and could probably get away with not using nic and to be frank, 3mg nic juice isn't likely to be doing much harm(comparatively with smoking if nothing else) and it adds an extra 10ml of juice to my shortfills, thus they last that bit longer.

I tried to get my mum on vaping and started her with 12mg juices, had her test juices i have at 3mg first(to get a feel of what flavours work for her), i wanted to start her at 18mg but she said go lower(we got a mix of 12mg and 6mg). She didn't enjoy the tighter high nic vapes or the high nic juices at all, airer kits with low nic juices work great for her though(things more along the lines of what i vape now some 15-16 months along from quitting). Different strokes, not everyone has the same requirements when it comes to vaping. I've vaped the left over 12mg / 6mg juices and she's happy having the odd toot on 3mg juices we sorted out for her later, it's enough for her (comparatively i'd never have managed starting out that low).
