Hi everyone,
I think the time has come that we finally drop the “Verified Member” status from PotV.
With the rate we’re growing we are seeing a massive increase in the workload and this verification just adds another level of complexity and makes the to do list scarily long!
Also, we have had a few deals go wrong and the kick back on us has been unexpected. All the verified status does is allow us to say that the person is who they claim to be and has a valid PayPal account, it does not guarantee the quality of their character and certainly doesn’t make us responsible when things go bad.
I hope everyone understands and I’d like to thank all of you that have completed the verification process in the past. It was worth a try but ultimately proved too difficult to sustain.
I’d also like to thank the moderation team (they’re volunteers you know!) for their hard work in trying to scale the mountain which is verified status. You can all breathe a sigh of relief now!
Anyone will be able to sell items that are surplus to requirements. We will still monitor the classifieds to ensure that it remains a private-seller only market and is there for our members to make use of and enjoy.
We still recommend that all sales use the PayPal goods payment system. The classifieds have accounted for hundreds of successful sales and only a handful have gone wrong, but where the buyer has paid using PayPal goods they have been able to reclaim the money. Using friends and family payments will leave you exposed. We will explain this again in the terms and conditions of use as we rewrite them.
We will be changing forum permissions and removing the verified status over the coming days so we ask for your patience while we untangle this web and ask that you do not complete any new verification applications and please don’t pester about old ones, we’re all flat out at the moment!
