when buying e juice why are the mg sometimes mg/ml

was just perousing some eliquid and some says 18mg others say 18mg/ml are these the same thing or different?

They are the same. It means 18mg per ml.

Clint is right, they are the same thing - mg is often used as an abbreviation of mg/ml - so it isn't strictly accurate as a 10ml bottle will contain 180mg of nicotine.
