What's new

white (hot) van man

Can I ask a silly question.................... Ok the van is burnt out *Check*, an ecig was plugged in and charging *Check* .. but the pictures show them holding the 'slightly charred' ecig in their hand... surely if this was the cause (and I don't dispute that I suppose) then wouldn't the ecig be a pile of burn out ash like the rest of the van?... Or are these egos made of some unburnable material that only sets fire to everything around them when plugged into the wrong charger without turning to burnt molten mush themselves

Good point, but bear in mind the batteries when venting tend to shoot white hot material out one end which would have set light to the upholstery I would imagine. The images of most vented ego's look a bit like that, admittedly it is a little odd it survived the ensuing inferno, but fire chiefs are quite good at pinpointing the cause of the fire. These days the reports their normally mention the incompatible chargers rather than just 'it was an ecig wot done it'

Sorry to say but this reeks o shite the van exploded ffs and looks more like an insurance job than anything else. Daily Fail lol

My feelings exactly. Load of bollocks if you ask me. What is it with The daily Fucking Fail!!!!!!

I don't buy or read news papers because of the utter shite they contain. But the Daily Fail. They win hands down for producing made up scare mongering fucking moronic shite.

Oooh interesting, you got linkies?

Sorry, no. In the article The Daily Mail states under the photo that it is an "example". Just clarifying that it's just another bit of journalistic trickery.

bugger, you had me all excited for a second, it could still be viewed as misleading, but not as strong a case. I might still look into the PCC though.

If you have I might have a look at this option :D

That image has been used a few times by the fail, e.g. : E-cigarette explodes and starts fire after it overheated while charging | Daily Mail Online

From what I can make out, it's actually taken from a fire brigade webpage : London Fire Brigade - ?Exploding? e-cig leads to safety warning from Brigade and used as a 'stock' photo to illustrate what a buggered up battery looks like.

As I understand it, media outlets often use stock photos to illustrate points and it might be a bit difficult to get a complaint upheld unless they're deliberately misrepresenting the image?

Not that I'm saying don't attempt a complaint if you want to.. maybe if enough complaints are put it in it might spur more accurate reporting?
