OK .. so i have taken delivery (thanks leisureliquids) of 5 different types of tobacco leaf for an upcoming experiment in leaf steeping I intend to start conducting over the next week or so (just awaiting delivery of a few more bits - bottles etc)
The purpose of this experiment is for me to try an recreate the HOL Virginia Prime steep I got off Mark few months ago .. which along with the HOL Guevara steeps seem to have been the most successful home steeps I have read or heard about. (Note: I mean recreate the process successfully ... rather than recreate the juice)
So I intend to use the same (or similar) methodology on each leaf type and see what I come up with .. the hope is at the end I will have 5 different tobacco base flavours I can either vape as is or mix between .. or use as bases for other flavours/sweeteners
The 5 Tobacco's I have are :
Nicaraguan Leaf
Havanna Leaf
Aged Maduro Dark
Smooth Virgina
Sweet Virginia
so a mix of cigar and cigarette type tobacco's
Methodology
I have been doing my research - and to date it seems the best results I have seen is the method used by eBaron and HOL in their home steeping range (i even did this myself). So this is the method I am going to use.
Rather than trying to create a flavour concentrate out of the leaves. It involves making up a base mixture (in my case I am going to make a 15mg 50/50 VG/PG mix with vodka as a dilutant (can anyone recommend a good amount to use %age wise?)
rather than put the leaves in a steeping "tea" bag I am choosing to line the steeping containers with the teabag - then pack the leaves quite tightly inside and then add the base mix over this ... this way all filtering will be done by lifting the bag out and squonking the mixture out of the bag into the container throught the teabag - I believe having the base mix free access to the leaves may help rather than expecting the base mix to travel through the bag to the leaves.
Im intending to use 10g of leaf to roughly 50ml of base liquid - steeping time will be decided by taste testing.
More to follow over the next few weeks ....
Anyone with any advice or comments I invite you too share!
