What's new

1325 new virus deaths, how did this happen?

sadly not many took notice and as this is the 14th day since christmas day theres your catalyst caused by the majority ignoring lockdown and still going to family on christmas day and with a much more dangerous strain things can only get worse.
Wasn't it originally going to be 5 day free for all but Doris reduced it to just the day only?
People are still going to mix if they're allowed and Doris allowed them to mix on Christmas day.
Bit like eat out to help out.

If that's true then the next two weeks might see big rises in the death rates, the average admissions to hospital are 13 days after getting sick, and people usually die 7-14 days after that (or get better) ... but yeah if there are going to be big rises from Christmas and NY then this is just the very start.

Christmas mixing was always going to be a ticking timebomb. Add to that the fact that schools have remained open, and this new super-contagious strain..... a proper lockdown is what's needed, and bloody quickly.

We're not doing much better over here but everyone is wearing masks at all times and the schools have been shut for about 5 or 6 weeks already.

I pray that the world can get a good handle on this virus before it swallows us up [emoji25]

I think the vaccine is the only way out now, it's too late and too serious for anything else. .... fingers crossed. :)

... and lets hope the anti-vaccination people are as few as we hope they are.

just reported now that its 1 in 20 have the virus. it was 1 in 50 yesterday.

this post from Dr Rant says it all:

Dear Boris. Your 'Merry Little Christmas' appears to have fucked the NHS.
Not the classic 'fucking the NHS' by slowly strangling it with a lack of funds. I mean, utterly fucking. There are far, far, far too many Covid-19 cases to manage safely now.
And Dear Readers. Unless you are a doctor, nurse, or other key worker, STAY THE FUCK HOME.

just as an example, if anyone has ever been to wembley stadium for football (90,000) or a concert (95,000) then within 2-3 weeks every single seat will represent a life lost to this evil virus.

Oh, yer from georgia, that explains the anti-vaxx (just teasing, sort of). Its actually been reported a few places now, including here in philly.

The higher deaths r from the higher number of infections obviously. The good news is that only the infections r rising exponentially while deaths are not. The rate of deaths to infections is what indicates better treatment.
Maybe not quite that simple. The demographics of the infected also play a big role not just better treatments.

Where was that reported?

1-50 nationally, 1-30 in London and 1-20 in some areas of London (according to Mr Khan) is what I have.

A Woman neighbour of mine has lost 3 members of her family to Covid, i would normally feel sorry for someone who has lost so much. My problem is that each and everyone of her family has flouted the rules, they held Xmas and New Years parties allowing anyone to go to them and even after back in April losing her son she still continues to break the rules losing 2 more family members. I might be hard hearted but aren't they asking for trouble flouting the rules and breaking the law. My sister thinks it's awful i don't care about them because i have known them since i was a child, they have created the situation they are in so why should i feel sorry for them. It's sad that they have lost so much i agree but i also see that it could of more than likely been avoided.
Why should you care about them when they obviously don't care about themselves or are too stupid to get it.
If it helps, I don't care about people like that either. I do have limited emotions though [emoji6]

50% of people ignored advice and went to other folks places on Christmas day? Wasn't my experience, my wife and I didn't, neither did any of my 4 children, my wife's son didn't, my best mate nor any of his family did, next door didn't. The lady two doors up didn't, the bloke in the basement two doors up didn't, the end house over the road didn't, I could continue.

I think it's more apt to suggest that a significant minority visited family on Christmas day.
