Hi there lads. I've been mostly lurking but decided to finally make an account as i need some help and can't seem to find the right answers.

A little about myself. I am in my 30s, Started smoking when i was 12. Been doing 1 pack every 1-1.5 days. I've decided that i've had enough sometime early this year. Started using pen vapes like RELX that don't need any maintenance like wicking, coils etc. Just pluck out the pod and pop one in and off you go. With the vape pen, my frequency of combustible consumption has reduced to roughly 1 pack a week. Last month i decided it wasn't enough and wanted to stop all together. I've always been fascinated by mods but never ventured as there were so many variables and terminology that put me off, never even puffed on one before.

So fast forward to mid last month, I made my very first mod setup purchase; Voopoo Drag 3 with the Profile RDTA.

While i am not getting the dreaded mesh dry hit and the flavor has been fantastic i am getting sweet lips everytime after taking a hit and end up licking my lips like a spaz. To clarify, i don't taste any hot or warm juice entering my mouth and my lips don't get wet from taking a hit either but they taste of the e-juice which i don't really like. What am i doing wrong? Below is how i am running my gear.

Mod: Voopoo Drag 3
Atty: Profile RDTA
Coil: Clapton Mesh reading at 0.23 ohms (default mesh the atty came with)
Wick: 6mm Shoelace cotton (default cotton the atty came with)
Wattage: 45w
Airflow: Top row of honeycomb closed, bottom 2 rows open
E-Juice: 30/70 PG/VG, 3 mg nic

I tried bumping the wattage up to 60 but was still getting sweetlips. I honestly prefer running my device at a lower wattage as i dont like a warm vape. I would upload a picture of my wicking but i don't know how to. I am not sure if my wicking is the issue here. What i hope to ultimately achieve is a cool vape that has a decent amount of flavor and doesn't leave me licking my lips. I hope some vets can provide some advice. I do want to keep vaping and enjoy my first vape thoroughly.

Welcome mate.

There could be a couple of things giving you the sweetness on your lips tbh.

First it could be the wicking. You need to make sure the cotton isn't touching any of the metal in the deck apart from the wicking ports. I tend to trim the cotton a little around the wicking holes to make sure it's not coming out.

The more likely is your juice. If its a particularly sweet juice it'll have sucralose in it, which can cause what you're experiencing.

Another thing that might help is pushing the wattage up a bit. Too low can sometimes mean not all the juice is being vaporised.

Hope you figure it out as the profile rdta is perfect for how you want to vape.

I'd say the vapour is probably hitting your lips on the way in.
Try adjusting how you place your lips on the drip tip.

How is the resistance for my mesh? If i want a cool non-wet wape do i have need to increase the resistance of my mesh? I'm doing 6mg nic juices. I frankly do not know if it is my wicking as its my first wicking attempt. I'll put the pictures down below.

No need to increase the resistance as the vape off of the mesh is a lot cooler anyway at the lower wattage you're using. Your wicking does look a little much in those photos so here's a link to a thread that shows how to reduce it and get it a bit more trimmed

That's the way I wick mine and it works perfectly.
Thank you for the link Glitchy. I have some new juices coming in. I shall try following the wicking guide with the new juice to see how it performs.

I do however have one more question. I plan on buying mesh spools from Vandy vape to cut out strips. I’ve never done any handywork in my life before so I’m a tad worried I’ll screw up a lot of the spool. I don’t think I even have the correct tools to cut it or deal with any jagged edges. Are there any sort of guides or videos on this? I tried looking on YouTube but it’s mostly regular coil building there.

Sorry mate, I just use the pre cut strips myself. Never had a roll of mesh. I assume you'd just use the same wire snippers that you do with normal coils.

Ah

Ah okay. To be frank i would rather buy pre cut ones too but where I live, vaping is actually banned. As such underground dealers charge a higher market rate. A box of 5 strips is gonna cost me 30 bucks where as a spool will cost me 45. I actually chuckle when I see people complaining about vape mail bans or flavor bans in forums.
