3D Printed Stuff

Dammit man, just when I think you can’t get any more awesome, you step it up a notch! Top skills! I want to look at some sort of shortfill lid opened. All the ones in thingiverse use razor blades which doesn’t look nice, especially when you are as clumsy as me! Of course I could just buy one for a few quid but that’s not the point. I needed a new small bin to keep next to my printer to keep the rims and support rubbish in so instead of popping to the shop and spending a couple of quid, I spent 6 hours printing one off instead! By the time you factor in the filament and electricity, it would have been much cheaper to buy one but that’s not the point :D

I find the elastic ones a pita, better than nothing, but I would be well up for trying a hard version. I guess they would need to be matched to the spool width / diameter which could be a pain.

Yeah Spool width variety has stopped me in my tracks, most of mine are varied in width.

ooer missussss!!!!!!

what ever happened with the tooth picks?

Liking the edit :18:

Plenty of toothpick stuff already out there.

Thank you @Purplefowler
I did look at shortfill bottle openers a while back, the main issue is the strength of PLA is generally too weak, eventually I gave up, I also don't like the thought of using a razor blade

You've hit the nail on the head with printing time & costs, the amount of stuff I've designed and printed cost me way more than simply buying one, if it's just for myself I don't mind as I enjoy making stuff and the challenge of learning CAD skills comes in handy, I designed and printed an arcade joystick, by the time I had finished it took over 90 hours of printing time alone, let alone cad time and faffing, but you can't buy the satisfaction of making stuff yourself :)

Have you found yourself printing tons of random useless stuff for the fun of it? I used to use this 3D printed fukofftopus as a review prop for shit I didn't like:

Yep, loads of random shit that has no use what so ever but its the thrill of watching something print from nothing, its magical! Im not mush of a designer but my youngest is a dab hand with cad. The coolest thing he mad was a replica portal gun, took bloomin' ages and so many fails on the old printer as it just couldn't handle larger prints without warping. Its a killer then you are 6 hours in to a 9 hour print and the bastard lifts! Thankfully we don't have any more issues after getting the purse mini, that little thing is amazing!
