Is there any proof that this was a mech or a loose battery?

I feel that pro-vapers are as happy to jump to conclusions as much as the press.

Could have been a dodgy battery, something we're all susceptible to.

I suspect loose battery in pocket shorted by change/keys for an ecig.
Looking to blame anyone else for his own stupidity and earn some money along the way, very sad if this is the case.

I'm not susceptible to dodgy batteries, I take care of mine and have never vented one, Oh and in case you're wondering I currently have 21 18650's and 3 LiPo's...

I only buy Samsung and LG cells from a vendor who is well regarded in both the vaping and flashlight communities, and I take my mod out my pocket before I partake in vigorous exercise... Some might call me overly cautious but I also check the amp draw of new builds and occasionally I give the batteries in my mod a feel to make sure they're not cooking from the inside. To date I'm not missing any skin on my legs, nor have I suffered any molten drip tip related face or mouth injuries. That won't make the news though will it?

It looks exactly like a mech mod and the fact he was roller skating with it in his pocket tells me that if it unlocked and fired in some way then he was a tit rather than a fault.

What have gathered with all these stories is that nothing is straight forward. No one with an ounce of common sense has an issue , I don't have a fault with my mod in my coat switched off but guy roller skating with a next mod has it blow up? Or it's normally the battery not the ecig that's at fault.

When I read a story where they weren't being a tit in some way then ill take heed to it.

It's the user who's at fault :)

And roller skating.....mmmmm....good luck with trying to sue the battery company/mod maker/atty maker with that one....

Thing that boils my piss about stuff like this is that he should have just owned up and said that he was at fault for.......

1, being a fucktard and roller skating with a mod in his pocket.

2, not knowing that this is stupid....and he needs to hold his hands up and say he's a cock and it's his fault.

Haha exactly my thoughts.

1) You can guarantee you're using 100% authentic batteries?

2) You're 100% confident the batteries are brand new and haven't been used prior to your application (ie abused in any way)?

3) The batteries are being used for their designed/tested purpose?

4) You can guarantee that your mod isn't faulty or about to malfunction?

I'm not saying you don't look after your batteries, I know I certainly do:

1) Bought from a reputable eBay seller recommended on the site
2) Only using batteries which meet the required ohms law requirements
3) Kept and carried from A - B in a dedicated case
4) Only charged with a XTAR VC2 charger
5) Never left to charge overnight or left on charge once full capacity has been met

However, am I confident I can answer my own questions? Probably not..

Yes, a mobile has the potential to blow up too but let's be honest we're not talking about a £30 mod and a batteries bought from relatively "unknown" distributers with a samsung/lg stamp on the side. I dread to think how much the big mobile manufacturers spend on battery safety, testing etc.

At the end of the day we're all at the mercy of battery/mod reliability. There is no guarantee that even if you care for your batteries properly you're not at risk of malfunction. Ultimately though it's a risk all of us vapers are willing to take (me included).

Easy, yes to all those questions, plus the fact that I'm fully aware of the normal operation of my mods, how usage affects both them and the batteries used in them and I'm fully conversant with the early warning signs of both mod failures and battery failures.
Im not saying I'll absolutely never have a battery vent, theres always an outside chance one will go mad, but I know all the warning signs and take care not to over stress batteries so we're talking about much higher than lottery winning odds of it happening - even with the number of batteries I have...
There's a reason my Forum name is Tubbyengineer.:grin2:
