Battery care

This is a bit late, but here are a few tips to help you choose 18650 batteries-

The maximum Amp draw capability of any 18650 is 30 Amps and the maximum capacity is 3,600mah (these are normally given a nominal rating of 3,500 on the label)

If you see ANY 18650 battery claiming a figure higher than 30A or 3,500mah it is a lie so don't buy them.

You don't get high capacity and high curent draw in the same 18650 - a 3,500mah battery will have a maximum current draw of 10 Amps although some are even lower (good for low power MTL vaping but not ideal for anything else, and unsafe for high power vaping) - a 30 Amp battery will have a maximum capacity of 2,000mah (these are great for high power Mech mod use, but the low mah capacity means they will discharge fast so they aren't a good choice for regulated mods).

The vape shop selling these batteries SHOULD have known the label claiming 3,500mah and 35 Amps was a lie for 2 reasons. You get either high capacity or high Amp ratings from an 18650 but you will not both from the same battery, and the 35 Amp claim is a meaningless Pulse Rating (an electronic pulse could be a hundredth of a second which is irrelevant to vaping safety).

When it comes to vaping there are 3 types of popular 18650

1. 3,500mah, up to 10 Amps max - good MTL vaping or low power Restricted DL only. Personally I wouldn't go much over 20 Watts single/40 Watts dual mod use.

2. 3,000mah, up to 20 Amps max - good for dual 18650 mods up to 120 Watts max, but if you regularly vape over 100 Watts it may be worth considering 25 Amp batteries. Also good for single 18650 regulated mods is you don't go over 60W, but if you regularly vape over 50W then a 25 Amp battery is worth considering.

3. 2,500 - 2,800mah, up to 25 Amps max - good for dual 18650 mods up to 150 Watts, single mods up to 75 watts and a good choice for unregulated mods. These 18650s are probably the best choice for high power use, but if you never intend to go over 100 Watts (dual) or 50 Watts (single) the 20 Amp 3,000mah are probably a better choice because of the longer run time.

And - as others have said, Fogstar is probably the best place to buy batteries.

I've learned a lot since yesterday thanks to you guys. I'm rarely going to vape over 50 watts unless I'm using my TFV18 tank which i don't fancy at the moment as it leaks and will overhang. Soon as my local shop is open I'll be showing him the bench test and reasons why I'm taking them back.

Please let us know how it goes returning them.

Older forum members may remember “the incident” where I caught a shop I can not name selling fakes.

They was eventually pulled from the shelf,
But a lot of grief for me and also the forum, this case is different though and I imagine they should accept your return as they are not fit for your intended use and mislabelled.

As mentioned the shop probably didn’t know, they buy at face value and the staff may not be aware they are not what they say.

Thanks, I returned them on Friday after messaging shop owner and explaining that they were rewraps and bench tested to show irregularities. Swapped for e-liquid so I didn't have to fork out for more to last me over Christmas.

Glad you got the batteries sorted @Lisa Bolton , and in the hope of making you feel better the charger is good, my old Nitecore i4 has done me great service for years now. And at least you can tell the shoppy guy that and perhaps mollify him a bit! ;)

Lol yes it felt good knowing my charger is legit and my batteries have been returned. He's generally a cool guy that gives me good advice. Maybe he truly didn't know about the rewraps

I am glad to hear they accepted them back, and you got juice in return so you aren’t out of pocket.

When you feel ready if you want to save a bit look into DIY juice, you will be pleasantly surprised you can make the flavours you love for less and often taste better!

Maybe they didn’t know, although them not swapping them for ones suitable either says they do know and are the cheapest they can get from the supplier which is why you got juice, and not something like a set of 25rs, or they really didn’t know, are now scratching their heads for their next order.

Either way it worked out well for you so makes me happy :)

I was going to get into mixing but felt the steeping would do my head in lol. At the moment I've been finding reduced clearance liquid and my local vape stores offer deals like 100ml 2 for 15 when can't wait for delivery so not too bad. Thank you
