Best single coil build for flavour?

Thanks for the advice Simon, it's appreciated. Just out of interest I use an old Ultron Corrola V1.5 for work would you class this as a "small" tank. It looks to me like it could take more than the six wraps of 28 gauge 3mm ID that I currently have on it.

cheers,

Pete.

oo, my favourite tank. :D

Yeah it's a bigger deck compared to something like a Kayfun....I guess you are limited in length a little by the fact the posts have no offset. I use a 2.5mm ID because I can't be bothered to mess around thinning the wick ends and I think 2.5mm of cotton is the right amount for the holes. Other than that, I use 28awg and around 6 or 7 wraps too, you could use 26awg with no issues too if you wanted to try that. There's more room to experiment in the corolla than in something with a small bell chamber I guess. There's enough airflow to put a small MTL 'fancy' coil in there too, I'm just not really one to mess around when I've something that works.

Yes, mate, they are a nice tank with good flavour. I managed to bag an extra one a few months ago which I now save just for going on holiday. I think i will try some 26 AWG just to experiment. Memsey said that a micro Clapton might be worth a try, I have no experience with Clapton's though, what do you think?

I have 6 of them (don't judge me!!) pretty much been my tank of choice for 4 years. I just find them so easy to live with, no leaking, no messing around needed.

yeah give one a try, some people really love those little MTL claptons. I've tried them before..... um, the ones that came with the berserker tank if I recall. I didn't think they were worth the extra cost or hassle over a simple bit of wire, but there's no harm in trying.

That's exactly why i like them mate. Amongst other tanks i have had a couple of Reapers, also the fancy greek ones (can't remember the name) and an Amer Point from Russia and i still keep going back to the Corrola (laughs). I read that the Pilgrim coils (clapton) were very good so might have a look at those just to experiment.

cheers,

Pete.

If my experiences of DTL vaping are anything to go by then it's definitely worth experimenting with different coil configurations and alloys.

I can't say from a MTL perspective but in my own experience the right coils, positioned correctly with regards to the airflow on your atty, can make a significant difference to flavour production. I'm not certain of the science behind it but I suspect it boils down to a combination of the surface area and wicking properties of the coils. With some configurations when I put the specs in to steam engine, 5 or 6 coils at 3mm ID can come in at well over 2m of surface area each! By comparison 5.5 wraps of 28g gives you just over 70mm. These coils do need more power for them to function optimally and you will consume more juice as a consequence but that's the reality of how vaping works. I think it all boils down to preference, as in, how you like your vape to be. That's why, if I were in your shoes, I'd purely look at this as an opportunity to experiment and find out how I got on with different coils. Ultimately you are already getting good flavour and a pleasing experience from what you're currently using so it's a shot to nothing in that regard. If I had any experience or knowledge of making MTL coils I'd bang a couple out for you to try but unfortunately I don't and don't want to risk giving you something rubbish to vape on!

Sound advice mate, thanks.
