I was just rebuilding my Ismoka Magoo and the little nut/wheel that holds the wire to the positive side of the atty snapped clean in 2. I can probably glue it but I'd much sooner replace the offending part. I've already emailed the vendor to see if they can help, but does anybody here know?

Its probably a standard size thread so you may be able to get a nut that will replace it from somewhere like RS, I'd suggest looking for the type of nut that holds toggle switches into panels - you know the really flat silver ones...

I've been weighing up the very same part on my Magoo, and I'm thinking it would be better replaced with a metal nut, when it inevitably gives out. Unfortunately I am not equipped to determine the thread pitch, nor the internal diameter, with any accuracy, so I'd be interested to know how you replace yours, and with what.

I'll wait to hear back from the vendor to see if they have/can get the right nut. I can't measure pitch etc either, so it'll be trial and error mixed with a bit of experimentation with machine screws in my bits box. Or as a very last, last resort I do have some taps and dies so I'll be trying to make a nut myself, but hopefully it won't come to that.

@ Lord Grim My guess is it will be a standard machine screw pitch (M8 ish) from the fact that its a chinese product as they would not go to the trouble of using a custom thread when standard ones are already programmed into the machine tools...

That makes sense actually. Definitely not m8 though. I'll have a proper measure up after work tomorrow, but it's going to be m4 tops.

Oh dear god, theres no hope for me, I've started making sense - Just 'kin shoot me now...

"Definitely not m8 though" - Funny, they always look bigger in the pictures...

magoo.jpg Excuse the dodgy photography. On the right is the nut in question, and it fits on the small threaded bit under the ceramic cup

Like I said, a bit difficult to tell but it's not a fine thread so could well be a machine screw thread, if you think the halves will go together cleanly spot a bit of supergoo on it then you can try the nut on a screw before hand and wont run the risk of damaging the atty at all...

Yeah, that was my first thought, but as I said, I'd sooner put a new one on there. I'll go through my bits box and see what's in there. I've even considered using a small O ring as a wire trap. It will be resurrected, just not sure which option is going to be best/easiest yet.
