if a coil burns while the tank is full of juice it can indeed effect the taste negatively.
It's very easy for that scorched cotton and juice burnt on the coil wire to contaminate the juice in the tank. Best emptied (I know it's money down the drain) clean the tank with warm water and dry with paper towel before refilling
I tend to look at the minimum and maximum wattage and after priming the coil ( preferably with bellow 60%vg maximum with the nautilus coils) start vaping a few puffs at half the minimum wattage.
I then never turn the wattage up further than the mid point of the stated wattage. (Ie: 12 -18w =15w.
This should ensure the longest life from that coil and as you say, once the coil is warmed up, it will.deliver the full flavours on offer from your juice.
