What's new

CEH report in todays Guardian.

The good news if you look at the number of products tested and the graph of those that breached safe limits it looks like most are safe so if there is a real problem it can be sorted.

It would have been more informative if they had also listed levels of cancer causing chemicals in tobacco. They still go on about kids using e-cigs. I have never seen young ones using e-cigs in my town but seen plenty smoking cigarettes. And no proof that e-cigs are a better aid to quitting smoking than NRT patches, gum etc. ?. I tried them all and none worked. Nothing I read will persuade me to stop vaping !

Admittedly I didn't read the whole thing, just flicked.. But isn't there a massive lack of transparency there?

Same where i live, it tends to be all adults i see vaping and kids smoking. Had two teenage girls ask me just this morning as i was going into the shop if i would buy them cigarettes.

On another note... who even uses the e-cig things? I have never seen anyone use them, everyone uses mods/tanks even if it's just starter ego kits.

It's part of a running political battle in California.

California has one of the lowest levels of state tax on tobacco. There was a bill that was stopped in July to raise smoking age to 21 and increase tax to raise $11.1 million.

Last month a special session was called to bring this back ... special sessions do not need as many voters to get a bill passed and it was duly passed pending a vote of the full assembly later this year. That bill included restrictions on vaping as well.

It looks like the various interested parties are gearing up for the vote in the senate

Even better news is this >>> U S !! :D :D :D

It's another fun attack on Vaping by the Virulently Anti Tobacco CEH. The CEH a "Not For Profit" does amazingly well from donations and funding by anti smoking groups.

Below are some of the Choicest snippets from this "Report" that indicate it's general tone and direction...

CEH is also concerned about the deceptive and dangerous marketing practices of
e-cigarette companies. Studies show that the majority of e-cigarette companies
make unverified safety claims and other questionable claims about their products.

Many companies market their products as a tool for quitting tobacco, but recent
research suggests that e-cigarettes may provide a gateway to traditional cigarettes,
in particular for young people who never smoked tobacco.

Further, hundreds of e-cigarettes are sold in candy and dessert flavors and/or bright
colors that appeal to teens and children. This has resulted in a major increase in
nicotine poisoning incidents, especially among young children. CEH is calling on
e-cigarette companies to end these deceitful and dangerous practices.

CEH is concerned about the unregulatedmarketing of e-cigarettes, and especiallysales to teens and young people, while little isknown about the health hazards from inhalinge-cigarette smoke.

Andwhile the smoke* (often called vapor) produced by e-cigarettes does not look or smell like cigarettesmoke, previous studies of a limited number of products have shown that it does contain some of thecancer-causing chemicals found in cigarette smoke

E-cigarettes are also a gateway to smokingtobacco. A researcher at the University ofSouthern California, working with colleaguesaround the country showed that Los Angeleshigh schoolers who used e-cigarettes werealmost twice as likely as non-users to startsmoking.

Nicotine is especially dangerous for young children: A teaspoon ofa typical e-liquid contains enough nicotine to be lethal to an adult;smaller amounts would be lethal to a child.

Research paints a different picture, however. UC San Franciscoresearchers who comprehensively reviewed research aboute-cigarettes and smoking cessation concluded that the availablestudies “suggest that e-cigarettes are not associated with higher quitrates in the general population of smokers.”
