I have an xtar vc2 and I think it charges my batteries at 0.5A. It takes a long while to charge but I don't mind the wait.

I've recently bought an Xtar PB2 from fogstar,. I got it because I travel a lot and this charger is amazing for that.

"This charger is capable of charging one cell at 2A and two cells at 1A. "

It arrived today and tried it out with duel batteries. It was a LOT faster than my VC2. It also says it's capable of charging a single cell at 2A!!!

It this too fast to use on a regular basis?

ive got the dragon and only use 1A as ive read quite a few times that 2A can shorten battery life. im no expert though.

Short answer is no. Most cells can be charged faster but it will shorten life. I have the PB2 & the new PB2S but only charge 2 batteries in them so only at 1A in the PB2 but do take advantage of QC3 on the PB2S.

Depends on the cells. Loosely speaking the slower you're able to charge your batteries then the longer they'll last, but Samsung 25rs/Sony VTC5A's will both be good at 2 amp. In fact I think they're rated for being charged faster than that.

Will you shorten the lifespan? Possibly. But by so little amount that it won't matter.

With older cell tech a high charge rate was really bad for longevity.

Li-ion though can handle a lot more with negligible detrimental effects.

As said, a slower charge will lengthen lifespan a shade, but you'll struggle to notice the difference - especially given how we discharge them...

Anything in the 0.5 to 0.8C range is perfectly fine, and up to (in some cases exceeding) 1C is more than acceptable.

(The C is the cell rating, so a 2500mAh cell has a C of 2.5A)

Think it's 4A but wouldn't do repeated charges personally. The odd emergency wouldn't bother me.

I also heard charging at higher amps can affect longevity of batteries so settled for the middle ground and charge at 1a, as a molicel p42 would take upto 8 hours charging at 0.5a

Ok thank you everyone :) . Like I said this is only for trips and I will use my regular charger at home.

Really happy with my new purchase.

Keep an eye out for the PB2S, USB C + QC3 & 18650/2*700 compatible. Both make great power banks as well.
