I've started fitting my own coils to my EVOD coil head. 1.8 ohms with standard eGo battery.

They work fine for a few days & then the battery light indicates a short. Bye bye coil & I have to fit a new coil to the coil head . What's going on ?

Need more info to try and help..

Kanthal..? size..?? wraps..? micro coiled..?? cotton..?? silica..??

Nichrome? / silica. I buy them pre made.. 4 strands of silica bound together by the coil. 2mm thickness in total. . Initially the flavour was wow but vapour production drops off quite quickly. Doesn't short out with all of them but performance does. Yes I know I could try & make my own but I'm bad with my fingers. OK fitting the coil. Virtually 100‰ success

Coil touching the side of the head is the most likely cause of a short on these.

I did a couple of heads with some cheap and nasty nichrome wire that came free with something from FT and it only lasted a couple of days.

I do mine with .2mm Kanthal from Stealthvape & not had a problem, wrapped around silica or micro coiled with cotton..

As previously posted, if your coils overlap this will cause a hot spot and vastly reduce lifespan or just short, or if it touches the side of the coil head it will short.. real shame you cant make them yourself as you then know the quality of the components..

Should have asked if the coil was all gunked up when you replace it..?? some juices are known as coil gunkers..

If it all still looks clean when you pull the top post off, I would try giving it a prod with a precision screwdriver and make sure its seated properly and central to the chamber before changing it.. just a thought..
