What's new

Coil tastes burnt after one day

I poke right through to the centre on each hole, if you feel solid resistance stop and poke the hole in another spot as you are hitting the wire, though I use quite a large needle, a small pin doesn't seem to make much difference.

Interestingly, I ultrasonic cleaned some Smok coils after they dry hit and they actually lasted longer, I think it was due to the process loosening the cotton.

Great, thank you. As I mentioned I'm still quite a beginner to be honest so I'm guessing you buy an ultrasonic cleaner and clean the coils that way but does that mean you have to let them dry for ages? Are the coils like new once you've cleaned them? Sorry for all of the questions!

I have to be honest, Ultrasonic Cleaning coils is hit and miss, yes they need to dry for days, some work great (especially the ones where you see a lot of cotton) and others like the TF12 Prince ones don't work. - I got a free Ultrasonic Cleaner so had nothing to loose.

Now the ones that do work are often better than new, some are about half as good as new and some just don't work, it's trial and error.

Would I buy a Ultrasonic Cleaner? no.

I can't stress enough you would be far better off financially and mentally getting yourself into building your own coils, it's very easy and my first attempt though not perfect was still way better than a stock coil.

It's one of those things that when you do it you realise how easy it was, youtube it.

I know what you are going through and that dry hit and burn on stock coils is so frustrating and damn annoying let alone the expense, I have saved so much money building my own I treat myself to a new mod with the money saved.

If the tank takes the baby beast coils which I believe it does (please rectify this guy's if I'm wrong) then it could be the coil qc. As the guy's say the wicking can be shocking. I've lost three out of four coils in a pack before. Try the eleaf hw coils. These are interchangeable and have a far better quality rating. I switched to these and I've not had a dud yet and they vape better.

Thank you so much, do I poke the needle right through or just a bit? Cheers!

Right thru. But as mentioned be careful that you don't hit the coil wire on the inside when pushing thru. If you do just try again at a different spot.

What juice are you using, mate? Many juices will eat coils, and Smok coils are renowned for being a bit pants, so your choice of liquid could be making a pretty bad situation worse.

Also, when you experience a 'burnt' hit, is your immediate reaction to change the coil? It could be potentially a dry-hit, and your coil isn't in fact burnt. Next time you notice it, try setting your vape down for a few minutes and seeing if it recovers. It's entirely possible and plausible that your coils aren't wicking swiftly enough to keep up with the rate you're vaping.

What do you mean by;
Smok coils are renowned for being a bit pants

I had the same problem with a smoke v12 Prince coil. Tried the needle trick, works great.

Thanks all for your replies. I always prime until the coil can’t take in any more lol. I think my problem may be chain vaping then? I vape a LOT at a time so perhaps I need to chill a bit. Thanks so much. Also, I’m using crap cheap juice but it’s 70/30 not max VG. Do you have any recommendations for affordable juice? I like fruit and menthol flavours or really sweet grape/watermelon. Open for any suggestions just on a real
Budget. Cheers!
I would say start making your own juice i have, and if i can do it anyone can, good luck.

Steve.
