Coils Keep Burning Out! (Ello Duro)

With my old coil I was leaving 5 seconds or some times even less and it would never taste burnt and the coil lasted 2 weeks. Just don't understand.

Right, I've spent a good 5 minutes poking at the coil, trying to spread out the cotton so the juice can get to it easier. It seems to be making a difference. Just managed my usual 10 hits, all of which tasted good. So that seems to have sorted it. Just a bit ridiculous how the coils aren't already properly wicked out of the box. I couldn't find anything online, so it can't be a regular thing on these coils. A bit unlucky I guess.

Yes it definitely sounds like a wicking issue, what you are tasting is burnt wick / cotton.
Shame you got so many duds, but now you know the coils are prone to it its nice to know you can give the wick a little fluff.

I have been strictly rebuildables only for years, but grabbed a Smok TF12 Prince the other day, and the coil has been very good so far, 2 weeks in and tastes spot on.
I am still scarred by the issues with Protank coils back in 2014, so was reluctant to buy one but this has been a breath of fresh air!

Have still ordered the RBA deck as am yet to find a mass produced coil out perform a stock coil and its much cheaper too!

I always used to build my own coils, but ironically I started buying coils to avoid any frustration! It's also nice having a big tank so you don't have to constantly drip.

Have you tried the vandy vape pyro? One of my dailies right now.

This has the tank underneath, and gives an RDA type flavour with the benefits of a tank so has the best of both worlds :)

Or you could try squonking!

In my experience some stock coils need to be fully broken in to function properly. The cotton is packed in super tight. You need to allow the cotton time to fully break in and soften up so it wicks properly. When I have coils like that I install them as normal, take half a dozen drags whilst slowly increasing power from very low to just under the minimum recommended power setting. I then leave it to sit until the following day coming back every few hours and taking 2 or 3 quick drags to move a little bit of juice thru the cotton.

May be too much effort and waiting for some but it works. The next day the coils work flawlessly. There is also a very noticeable flavour jump on the second day compared to just installing and vaping full on right off the bat.

Bottom line is some coils are packed super tight and the cotton needs time to soften up. Otherwise, you just get dry hits. And once you get a dry hit, your coil is screwed. As soon as you singe the cotton the coil is useless.

I've just ordered some M and N coils. Will update if I have the same problems mid week.

My coils arrived on Thursday. Exact same coils as mentioned in the OP. I've been using one for 3 days now in my Pico 25. No problems and not even a hint of a dry hit. Fairly impressed. Vapour is good and so is flavour. They're not great towards the lower end of the recommended power but towards the upper end they're good. Be interesting to see how long they last.
