What's new

Did u get this email from Crème de Vape

There's two ways of thinking about it.

A 14 year old wouldn't get served in a shop with no ID therefore why should it be allowed to happen online?

There is a difference between flashing an ID at someone in a shop and them taking a copy to put on their computer.
Have you heard of identity theft?
Have you heard of bigger wealthier companies than any vaping company having their database hacked?

Still comes down to principal.
They've got a point - What's stopping 13 year old Jim from Newcastle buying 'Nicotine related products' online.

I'm not disagreeing with you. Surely there's a better way, but if it's the law, then it's the law.

Yes...I got this email. What will I do....nothing! It is total bullshit! The law also applies to selling knives, lighter fluid, rubbing alcohol plus many other products. This isn't a spreading trend but is just cloud 9 safe guarding their arse....It is not law....they must take reasonable care. So... am I wrong, but dont you need to be over 18 for a credit card or a Paypal account?? So from now on, cloud 9...or creme del la suck my nuts....unless I cant get my goods elsewhere...are we going to trade???? I am not going to support data swarming more than I have to!!!!!

errr

actually .. it is law .. as of the 1st of this month

we are all having to look into ways of doing the age verification ...

clicking a box saying 18 is no longer enough

Creme de vape....or...

I'll use them. Cloud9 have always been good. Showing I'm over 18 to them once doesn't annoy me in the slightest... [emoji2]

There is little point in shouting at the vendors about this ...

we are having to implement systems by lawful requirement to guarantee we are not selling to people below 18

there are several ways of doing it .. most of which are unsurprisingly unbelievably expensive - requiring age verification processes from external sources such as experian.

none of us like it, none of us want to do it .. its the way it is.

in theory the fact someone has a paypal account or credit card should mean they are over 18 anyway - this apparently in the eyes of the people trying to push us out to make way for big pharma, sorry .. I mean making responsible and not at all over the top laws is no longer enough.

How it works is .. when you sign up .. your details get shot over to some nosey boy agency like experian, if that can verify you are of age .. all good, if not then you have to provide proof of age.

Its not vendors trying to rob your details.

As has been mentioned earlier in the thread only over 18s can have a credit card so credit card holders could be exempt. As an old hippy if it is the law it is the law does not hol much weight with me. I am more about taking personal responsibility for my actions and not doing things because the law say I should.
This company is making an early move that will cost it at least some customers, probably not a good strategic business move.
Let us see what other companies do.
What does Tesco online do when you order a bottle of wine?
EDIT-
My stance is slightly softened having now read ZT posts but for people like me it is good news for shops and bad news for online retailers.

CREME DE VAPE....OR...anyone eslse on their wave length.... a simple answer to the emails you have sent out....GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!!!!

You have sent out a mewing email about justifying of age...this has no justification in law............if you don<t want to supply your customers take your site down and stop trade!!!!!

Fellow POTV members...plus this thread if you have had enough of being walked over!

I would whole heartedly agree with you

if in fact it had no justification in law

unfortunately ... it now does

a number of us are only just finding out about it ourselves ... and researching what we have to do - seems like basically we have to spend a couple of thousand quid to have experian or similar integration .. and then a cost per verification.

Its fucking bullshit, but what can we do ?

the fines for not doing it are pretty harsh

It just seems to me like its just more red tape bollocks they are using to try and Curb the "Vaping Scurge" so they can get back to pleasing big pharma and taking the tax from fags ...

and the artists formerly known as "Cloud Nine" are not early adopting at all .. they are following the letter of the law.

I can't blame them .. and I'm 100% certain they want to do it as little as you want them to do it.
