Heard on the news today some small business owners complaining that they're not being supported by the government's bailout package during this pandemic. Why? Because they pay themselves through dividends instead of taking a salary.

What's the difference?

Pay yourself through dividends and you avoid having to pay National Insurance Contributions.

Was always the way round of receiving income without paying higher tax. I guess people cant expect to have it both ways.

That's what happens when you consider tax something everybody, but you, should pay.
They made their own choice, let them deal with it. The fate of any staff, they employ, concerns me. Them, not one jot.

A bit off subject but football players pay themselves in weird ways to achieve reductions in tax etc, massive reductions. My wife keeps on about them (footballers), I'm like why are you concerned about them, I said that with regard to Premier League players and some Championship players they earn a fortune, they live in a parallel universe. Yes, they might catch or even possibly die of cv, but they aint gonna be skint anytime soon.

If they bend the rules to get paid so it looks like they only earn a fraction let them sign for UC , it should give them a pay rise. Or anybody that admits this should be jumped on.
