Does nic improve flavour?

I’m unsure about that. Though @Chris K, as a vendor and retail mixologist, may well put us right, I’m sure.

Oops sorry Chris:18: missed your post.
I dont know any eliquid maker that does not compensate for nic shots in eliquids that are shortfills

That was know, by me, well prior to this thread. Just wish more makers would include net and gross volumes. I’ve a shelf full of vape juice, many of which don’t even list the PG/VG ratio, never mind the true volume of juice thats in the bottle.
The question was, as I understand it. does adding nicotine ( not including base mix) itself, affect the flavour. And is that part of a juices recipe?

It absolutely does

throat hit is part of the overall flavour experience

so for tobacco for instance - i think a larger throat hit is more desirable than in say a vanilla cream

its why i dont think salts work well with tobaccos

Addendum : the steeping process does not seem to work without freebase nic.

complex flavours excell with freebase nic and get deeper and better.

salts do not seem to steep - hence why i think simple fruits and ice are whats in most popular salts and disposables.

And why simple fruit flavoured shortfills are good to go almost instantly - while custards etc suck straight away.

I find this really interesting. Why do you think that is with regards to the freebase steeping better?

I've been making salt juice for a while now and I do notice it doesn't steep as well but I don't use a lot of nic (12mg max) and it does seem to steep eventually but takes a lot longer. Maybe I've just got used to the flavour over the years though.

it bonds better, the salt is a derivative and therefore does not bond as well as there are extra steps for it to break down @Gitchy

I wouldn't say nic improves flavour, but I vape fruits/sodas. Some juices require dilution but as others have said it doesn't have to be diluted with nic.

However nic does add nic and reduces cravings for nicotine in combustible form.

Personally I'd try to give up nic if you feel youy may no longer need it. If you find you don't need nicotine in your vape then that's a win as it will cost less and you will be far less likely to be tempted by other nicotine products should our future Governments change their stance on vaping or target it as an untapped tax income well. If you find you do need it, then you are no worse off than you are now.

That, pretty much, how I see it. During my aforementioned nic error. It was nicotine cravings that made me realise my mistake. But I found no detectable flavour difference. @ 3mg nic and 80+ VG, there’s no discernible throat hit to miss either.

This is interesting, considering there is only 2.5ml of 72mg nicotine in a final mix of a 60ml shortfill (be it a nic shot or not) @ 3mg (I think I have got that right) i's a tiny amount in 60ml which you would think would get lost in the flavouring/vg/pg.....I get that it does something whether or not that is an overall improvement I dunno at low nic levels.

I wonder if the fact nicotine oxidises, may have something to do with it. I’ve often heard people say Juice darkens as it steeps. And there’s nothing else that can oxidise and therefore darken, over that short of a period anyway, (and assuming it follows tpd rules.)in any juice
