It's flawed thinking and a prime example of badly thought through, seat of the pants policy making.

The premise behind closing "non-essential" stores is to minimise public contact. Defining the non-essential is relatively easy, ergo easy to understand and comply with. Of course it's unfair but it's not about fairness and never has been, it's about keeping people at home for all bar essential shopping trips. (Ask Jeff Bezos about how fair shut downs are, he'll give you millions of reasons to thank you!)

The knee-jerk response has needlessly thrown the focus onto the definition of "essential" instead of the minimising of public interaction. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

This could be a real threat to avocado farmers everywhere yet how am I supposed to make guacamole without avocados? You can't tell me that tortilla night is non-essential.

Damn, I don’t envy anyone working in a supermarket in Wales atm, they must be having a complete nightmare of a time. Still, they might be the only physical retailers to survive this clusterfuck at this rate. I can’t see any way most companies on the high street can survive this.
