Dual coil - Parallel vs series

Bare with me :D

Just got some 0.32mm Kanthal through the post, did 8/9 wraps and came out at 0.9 ohms on a single coil squid.. first journey into sub-ohm so i'm happy with that.
I've got an orchid v4 on order, so im wondering about coiling it.

If i was to do the same again in parallel, would that would bring me out at 0.45 (which is a bit low for my likings) and in series 1.8

Since the orchid has 2 pos and neg terminals, would i pass the coils through the same pos and neg holes to make the coils series?

I think i'm aiming to be at about 1.2 ohm

Any help/advice greatly appreciated.
 
2 separate coils will halve the resistance. To get a resistance of 1.8 you'd have to make 2 coils of 3.6.
If stop using the terms series and parallel cos you're just confusing yourself.

You can have single, dual, tri and quad coils and they all work the same way on an atty.
A parallel coil is where you wind 2 pieces of kanthal at the same time to make a single coil.

The orchid has 2 holes in the positive to allow the use of thicker wire and make building easier that's all. Is still only 1 positive though.
 
If you wanted to get more vapour by winding parallel coils (2 wires side by side ) chances are high that the reason you're not liking it is insufficient airflow. I found that twisting 2 strands together slowed the heat up time whereas parallel produced almost identical heat up as single strand.

The resistance is halved so a parallel coil would be half the single strand. If you have 1 positive and 2 negative posts, the coils aren't in series so again the resistance halves.

To get your 1.2 ohms with 2 coils would require each coil to be 2.4 ohms and the quantity of wire used would slow their heat up slightly.

Most attys I've tried have required bigger airflow than stock holes can provide so I've had to get the drill out. The Zenith /Mephisto have slots which are able to provide enough airflow to cope with 0.2 ohms (or 100 watts approx) unmodified ,the Origen and Plume Veil needed bigger air holes to cope with much over approx 50 watts.

If your battery can handle high current loads, then try the 0.9 ohm build again but as a parallel coil (approx 0.45)but with as much airflow as the device allows. This should give you approx 40 watts on a fresh battery.

Order has been updated to arrived in the uk.. so we'll see in the next couple of days :D

Trungo : The parallel/series makes sense to me (I'm into car audio... subwoofers/speakers apply the same concept), I was just unsure with how it would work with the orchid :hmm:

Chegs : i currently vape at 15w max... 40w is a bit nuts, but think i'll up the wattage when i drop down to 6mg, as 12mg is verging on a bit much at 15.

Could tell you knew circuitry by the way you used series & parallel. Funny to see the close-up vapers responses. lol

In answer to your question, try to connect in series! What you gonna connect to? lol

Get yourself som smaller wire mate. You need some room to be flexible. kg87

Motoheaded lol I know where you're coming from. I've got some 0.2 and some 0.15 (well what ever was In the stealthvape sampler)

Its built! - ended up at 1.6 but its awesome, no leaks so far, so I must have done something right [emoji4]
