As mentioned by the author in this article (read here: http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-b...s-should-be-part-of-the-harm-reduction-debate), many public health experts are considering harm reduction policies to eliminate risks caused by harmful tobacco. But if smokers are not given any option to choose and are just asked to quit, possibility is that many will fail to do that. Therefore, an alternative policy that helps in both prevention and cessation of smoking habit will be welcomed by tobacco smokers. Hence, e-cigs seems a viable option that will provide reduction in harmful constituents of tobacco. Now, public health experts have also recognized the benefits of e-cigs as a safe alternative to tobacco and it can therefore be included in the national harm reduction policies. FDA has also allowed flexibility in nicotine replacement therapy products and it can be said that FDA now acknowledged that the actual problem is “smoke from combustible cigarettes” and not nicotine itself. E-cigs therefore must get its due recognition as it has the potential to drive tobacco harm reduction. What are your opinions?
