Finally found the clapton build for me

After trying various clapton builds I've never been that impressed. They've either been lacking in flavour or that hot they were an uncomfortable vape. Roll on my current build.

After trying to squeeze a clapton in my Aromamizer I decided to build one with 28g kanthal wrapped in 36g nichrome to keep it nice and small. Success! A nice cool vape with loads of flavour. I'm as happy as Larry.


Build is 6 wraps around 2.5mm drill bit coming in at 0.54ohms. Vaping at 50w.

I thought they were going to be a mare to wick and would mean removing the coils to do so but it turned out to be a doddle.

1) Leave the coils in place. Roll a length of wick the same diameter of the coil with one end pinched to a point. Feed this through from the top. As the end pokes through ease it through and over the side of the deck. I use my ceramic tweezers to do this.

2) Cut the end flat with a bit of extra length than you'll think youll need and fluff the end.

3) Slowly pull the wick back through just enough to poke the end onto the deck. If you pull it too far, which I did, you can pull it back down with a set of tweezers. The fluffed up end just wants to touch the deck and cover the two juice holes.

4)Then simply cut the top off a few mm from the top of the coil.

I've found this way easier to get the wicking right first time rather than wicking horizontal coils in the Aromamizer. Ill take some pictures of the steps when I next rewick it.

Looks a very tidy build, if I may say so. Only just started to make and wick my own coils. Got off to a terrible start with the first two ending up in the bin, but I got the hang of it and I'm really starting to enjoy the building process. Silly question, but did you buy that wire already wound, or did you do it yourself, as I've seen twisted wire on Gearbest and I have an order almost ready to go? Nowt like future proofing myself at those prices.

Cheers bud. The wire I've made myself. Just found the technique that works for me to make perfect clapton/fused wire every time. Coils do take a bit of practice to get right when you first start out. I've only just got to the point where I'm happy with all the coils I'm building and its taken me a few months on and off. Still can't predict resistance accurately though. Need to start using one of the online calculators.

I've just watched a video on making a fused clapton. I've got a lot to learn and some serious practice to put in before I can even think about attempting one of those.
