What's new

First build - mission vaguely successful.

Neat box. Soldering looks good. Did u sand the edges parallel. I like the unpainted look. Would look the dogs if u cud polish it. I'm gonna do an OKR.

What size magnets needed 4 the door? What 510 u using?

Yeah, nearly parallel! Sanded it by hand with some sandpaper wrapped around another enclosure box! Magnets I used were 4mmx5mm for the lid and 6mmx2mm for the screw holes of the enclosure. Had to drill out a bit for all the magnets but it was much quicker to do then I anticipated. Then just a dab of epoxy to stick them in.

I used the fat daddy vapes V4 low profile 510. I'm really happy with it, even the shabby finish! I made this thinking if it all worked it could be a 'work mod'. I'm a gardener, so it could take a couple of knocks anyway.

Keep us posted about your okr build, I'd be interested to hear how it goes. I'm thinking maybe a raptor build next.

Oh, and I managed to get everything from modmaker.co.uk. I can highly recommend him, and it's definitely worth checking out his builds and wiring diagrams in his 'modmaking information' section (it was there I found which magnets he used, and how to go about it).

Really? From what I could find on YouTube/other guides, heat shrinking the mosfet seemed to be the norm. I'll look into it though.

You mean a couple of vent holes for the batteries? Good point. With the fact it's such a large enclosure with a fair amount of empty space is it essential to have vent holes?

Many thanks for feedback all of you, it is appreciated.

It is the norm unless you are going to push it to the limits and them it will need a heat sink.

Toby your mod looks perfectly fine, just use it :)

Yeah, thanks for that. Iam gonna sand by hand too.

So, tried to make a box mod.

Didn't bother painting the box, could have been a waste of time if everything went wrong afterwards.

Dual parallel mosfet mod. Looks a bit shoddy inside but it all works. It was my first attempt at soldering, should hopefully do better next time.

Many thanks to ModMaker for having everything I needed, and thanks to a couple of you guys here for advice. You know who you are!

Polish it up. You can signal for rescue with a mirror that size. Good lookin build tho. Congratulations.

Whats the easiest way to make the square hole for the switch

I'm afraid I can't help! I made a bit of a bodge of it (I was so eager to get it done.) I just stabbed lots of holes in it with a drill, used some pliers to snap a couple of bits out, a Dremel cutting disc bit to try and tidy up. The cutting disc was too big, the part of the switch you can't see in the pic has two grooves cut out of the metal next to it! Then a dremel sanding tool.

The hole really isn't very pretty, luckily the casing for the rocker switch covers the mess. I would say the most important thing is just to make sure the hole isn't too big.

Hopefully someone will be along soon to help out.
