Yea the twists can be a nightmare. While its still in the drill, so the wire is held fast, I get 2 pairs of pliers and try work the twists out as best as I can. Then I wrap the coil slowly keeping the coil flat just working the twists out with a pair of pliers as I go along. 26g core works well for me and keeps the ohms above .2 (30a torchy batteries) on a dual coil.
