What's new

First SS Wick attempt

Yep, the aim is to make a good contact with the base with the end of the coil, that is basically the negative end of the coil. The other end should be making a good contact as high up the centre post which then acts as the positive end. The coils themself should be free floating and not touching any other part of the atomiser, they should just wrap the wick.

so pretty much what has already been said :)

That is why the losing of the top nut on the centre post could be an issue as you will be making a fairly cramped coil.

Try Nichrome, that'll give you a cramped coil, seeing as how it is much lower resistance than kanthal A1!
This is 2Ω

Surely it is the diameter of the wire that alters resistance, so a .20 or .25 would need more coils than a .16 etc, the nichrome/kanthal is just the make up of the wire?

different materials have different resistances. The nichrome was much lower resistance than the kanthal A1 (for same diameter). For the same number of coils Kanthal I was getting 2.3Ω & on nichrome I was getting 1.6Ω

Everyday is a school day :)

Interesting as I have some nichrome here I haven't tried. Will have a play later.
