hi, I was having some coil issues a few weeks ago and used this form and got some great advice so thought I would try here again.

Now that i’m a bit more experienced I would like to try getting into RBA tanks and making my own coils.

I’ve ordered the geek vape creed RTA. I thought it best to try an RTA before RDA/RDTA. Eventually I hope to get a squonk with a decent RDA. Anyway went a bit off topic there ...

I’ve got a tool kit think with screwdrivers, pliers etc for help with the coils. I’ve also ordered plenty of cotton. This may sound stupid but I was wondering if there’s anything else I need to order ? I was looking t wire rolls and pre built wires but didn’t know if I would need this for the RTA ?

I’ve not looked into how to build RTA yet but assumed when the tank comes I should look up a guide on YouTube ?.

Any advice is appreciated, if anyone has any general advice about getting into RBA builds please let me know.

RTAs do typically come with a few coils in the package, though they're not always great you haven't said if you have any, they'll do you for a short while but you really either need to buy premade coils, cheap and pretty crap or pretty expensive and good. buy premade wire and build coils (my preferred option, fairly cheap and easy) or make your own wire (difficult as hell but cheapest, more of a hobby than worth the time in my opinion.) Yes,look at a guide on youtube. have a look now so you're familiar. once you get the hang of it they operate reasonably similar across different RTAs.

Thanks for the quick reply. If I buy pre made coils and wire this would be much better for me since I’ve just started. Do pre made wires and coils fit all RTA’s ? I wasn’t sure if it’s a universal thing or you need to get coils/wire specific to your tank.

mostly yes, but be sure to know what ohm coil you like. there is also mesh as an option, so make sure you look for a non mesh rta if thats what you want.
a good idea is a premade pack, they usually have 5-10 different styles of coil and different resistances, this will give you some idea of your preference going forward. theres a lot to learn, but its pretty straight forward once you get your head around the basics. good luck

Agree with Kingpo , buy a premade pack such as Amazon product ASIN B073PYK1DHYou won't like them all but it'll give you an idea of what you will like at least resistance wise.

In terms of will a coil fit if you're building them yourself you only need to worry about how thick the wire is, will it fit the hole it needs to go into, which mostly you can look up and the vast majority of the time it will fit. Only once has it not fit for me and that was with an extremely complex thick wire.A coil could totally fit in the holes and provide a less than good vape!
If you're buying premade you need to think about the diameter of the coil. Depending on the RTA, you may not be able to fit above 3mm or 3.5mm. so if you're buying premades look at the guides for what is recommended for that RTA.
If you're buying the coil wire, you're setting the diameter yourself when you make it so that's not really a consideration you need to worry about. If you mess up and get it wrong, who cares, it's pennies.
Wires obviously have different resistances depending on material, thickness, length. What I like you may not. Don't worry about getting it wrong. Some of us may like a very simple wire, some of us may prefer a number of wires twisted together in a specific way. That's why it's probably best you get a cheap selection.

Thanks again for the detailed replies, it’s given me a lot to think about. I’m going to watch a video just now on YouTube about building RTA’s. can anyone recommend a good site/retailer to buy packs of pre made coils/wire ?

Personally, I'd buy wire and make my own coils. IMHO the hardest part of building a coil is the fitting of it, which is exactly the same for premade coils as it is for ones you wrap yourself. If you buy wire you just have to work out what you want and choose the right diameter tool to wrap it around - if that doesn't suit it's cheap enough to chuck and try again bigger or smaller, or with more or less wraps. Biggest decision is which wire to buy first. And I second Stealthvape for wire. :)

As @Diver9543 Said a OHM Meter is a must really and the model he suggested is still available on Amazon and other online vendors, i just started doing coils myself and bought pre-made before i started making my own. There is plenty of people on the forum to answer your questions so good luck :)
