Afternoon guys. I made my first liquid last month (cherry cola) and used 7.5ml VG and then 2.5ml PG (no nicotine, I just do this for flavour, and another faffy hobby)

I was just wondering what flavour percentage you guys tend to use. I'm thinking of adding a little PG to my mixes, I'll be making 5 when I get home from work tomorrow and I'm thinking if doing them all like this

6.5ml VG
1ml PG
2.5ml PG based flavour

Making 25% flavour, what percentage do tot guys use as a starting point with a flavour to see how it is?

Thanks,
James

I'd say that 25% is too much. At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference, but it is possible to over-flavour your juice. As of right now, I mix anywhere from 10-15% in total.

What should also be taken into account is the brand of flavour concentrate, for example FlavourArt tend to be stronger
than the other brands and require a lower percentage.

When I started, I mixed at about 20% but it got lower over time and I actually could taste the flavour better once I got to around the 15% mark.

Hope this helps :)

Hi James, I think you are on the right track by upping the % of PG, your Cola mix is a little VG heavy if you are looking for flavour. I use a 40VG/60PG final total and have enough of a cloud to know I am 'smoking', and get plenty of flavour.

I would second Make My Vape and start out with around 15% concentrate, you can always add a little more or dilute with extra VG/PG if neccessary. Good luck with your new recipes. Don't forget to record everything, recipe, date etc and do try and keep the juices you don't rate rather than binning them, time can improve a dodgy mix to something really quite worthwhile.

I don't understand how there's comments saying a certain amount is too much. It all depends on that specific concentrate. Some are weaker then others, which means a higher percentage until it's just right for your preference.

I'm currently testing Chefs Vapour concentrates. Most of them being 20%.

When buying the concentrate there should be a recommended percentage in the description. If not then start at about 10%, then work your way up till it's perfect for yourself.

im using chefs vapour i mix at 20% using 72mg pg nic base 10% distilled water and vg . i find the flavours are very good and at that mix its easier on my throat as im a little pg intolerant. its also a little easier on my coils as i use tanks and also produces the vapor and flavour that i am happy with. there is no rights or wrongs with mixing its nice to experiment a little and find ones happy medium.or so i think..happy vaping all:)

I am pretty sure that is exactly what both myself and Vapes were suggesting after James stated he uses 25%, sorry for any confusion.

Yep, 10% and work up!

When ever I get a concentrate I do a 10ml 50/50 mix with 10% and test it at 1, 7, 14, 28 days.

The nature of the beast is you cant tell after a day how it will be at 28days, some concentrates will only change a little, other a whole lot!

Having a base ratio also help with keeping consistency when comparing similar flavours from different brand, I tend to mix at 50/50, so I test everything at 50/50.

You have not said what brand of concentrates you have so I can't tell you if 25% is too much or not.

I can tell you that everybody's taste is different. Different equipment will make a difference to the taste, even the coil build will make big differences to how a juice tastes but that's the whole point of DIY, you can make juice that is perfect for you.

For what it's worth I will tell you how I come up the right amount of flavour for me.

I will generally start with a few ml at 10% flavour. If this is too strong I will double the total qty by adding unflavoured base.

If there isn't enough flavour I will add more, shake and allow to settle then have another sample until I get the flavour strength I want. Now give the juice time to steep. Most flavours will get a bit stronger with steeping. If it ends up too strong then dilute it back and allow to steep again.

Using this method does mean I end up with various amounts but PG and VG are a lot cheaper than flavourings and the only juice I throw away are any that are totally rank to begin with
