Royal Mail, in their infinite wisdom, have decided to change their postage prices.

Which was entirely expected.

What was unexpected was a change to their terms for carrying 'large letter' sized padded envelopes. From the 31st March 2014 it is no longer possible to use the large letter posting bracket to send items.

Royal Mail said:
Customers will not be able to send Large Letters containing items of intrinsic or resale value, such as: goods and articles sent in fulfilment of an order or request made to the sender, seller, supplier or publisher; gifts and unsolicited goods; collectibles; and spares and replacement parts.

Some specified categories of items are exempted from this prohibition. Prohibited packaging includes padded envelopes, cardboard and other stiff or inflexible packaging.

Changes take effect for items posted on or after 31st March 2014. [source]

What this means basically is that instead of postage costing us £1.20 for the majority of things that we send, it will almost triple to £3.50 there's no way to fairly squish this cost into our prices so that we can keep offering Free Postage for everything we sell. This makes us sad as we much prefer our simple and easy to understand pricing.

We will stop offering Free Postage at VaperCaper from 30th March onwards. We'll be restructuring all of our pricing and try to work out how best we can offer all of our customers the best deal from March 31st onwards and will be announcing our plans next week.

In the meantime we'll keep offering Free Postage on everything up until March 30th.

Royal Mail are a pack of french expletives, I have to deal with them at work on occasion and their a bunch of useless money grabbing unreliable plebs.
We ended up having to drop every small item policy we had in place and adopt a flat 2.99 postage rate, there is other postal services better than the RM for parcels but for small items RM are still the easiest and cheapest option, and now they're rinsing everyone who trades or sells online. As mail order constantly increases in popularity as well I can see the RM becoming even worse with missing packages and ludicrous fees/policies.

hmmm... after re-reading their updated terms page several more times, it might be just "Business Mail" that this effects - I'll go and double check when I'm at the Post Office later.

If we can keep our postage the way it is now we will.
