Hi all
I made the step from sub ohm to RTA and got the new zeus dual coil rta, as well as N80 fused clapton coil, all from Geekvape. Trimmed the legs of the premade coils and installed two coils on deck, test and all is fine. My mod however says coils only 0.1 ohm. Works fine and taste is OK, but worried about the ohms. Does it sound right, no dry hits or foul taste. using it at 35-40W. Any reason to worry?

Potentially, yes :)

When moving to RTAs and rebuildables you need to have some safety knowledge to avoid blowing your face off and being another statistic for the anti vaping brigade ;)

I am not familiar with the coils, but from a quick google I found some that were 0.3ohm, so when dual coiled will drop to 0.15 as you half the resistance. Is that the ones you have?

For someone new to rebuildables that is a very low resistance build.

That coil would usually be used at 100w+, is 35w even getting the coil going?

Before you bump the mod up to 100w please look at the below.

What mod are you using? I would assume regulated as you mentioned wattage. Is it rated to fire 0.1 ohm builds?

Even if the mod does support 0.1 ohm builds, are your batteries safe to vape such low resistance builds?

Which batteries? Dual or single? If dual, I would assume being used in parallel?

Sorry i couldnt be more specific, but its like asking "my car has a fault, should I be worried", need the details to be able to give you the best advice ;)

I think your mod is reading wrong. I have both types of the N80 fused clapton coils that Geek Vape sell. One pair come in at 0.17 Ohm, and the other pair come in at 0.2 Ohm.
What mod are you using?

Could be something as simple as needing to give the coils a pinch with tweezers and a wee strum to get out hotspots.

I find my coils sometimes come in a lot lower than they should before I pinch and strum them to get hotspots out.

If you have a decent regulated mod and it fires below 0.1 and you're getting a good enough vape at 35w then bang on, it should be safe enough.

Hi Guys
Sorry I should have given you more info
I have a Wismec RX2 with dual 18650 3000Mah batteries. I did loosen the coils and retighten them, and it now reads 0.13ohm, previously it sometimes said coils ohm too low (I assume that is because it fell below the 1ohm threshold)
Should it be better just to run it on one coil? If i bump it up to 50 or more Watts, then I keep on getting dry and burned taste hits. I still have to get my wicking sorted.
I will try one coil today and see if it is any better.
Regards

I would try it on a single coil, I use those coils in RDA's and they work great in single coil setups, ramp up faster and use less power, but you would be better off using some thinner gauge Ni80 coils if you want to dual coil it.

This stuff works a charm in dual coil setups and my favourite wire for RTA's
Coilology Ni80 Fused Clapton Heating Wire
28*2/36 AWG / 0.32mm*2/0.12mm dia. / 2.6ohm/ft / 10ft

Hi all
Tried with single coil, 0.34ohm, heats up quicker and good cloud and taste, no dry hits. Thanks for all the help. Still learning.

Sorry for the late reply, but have been using my coils in single coil mode now for a few months and all is well. I would still like a coil that heats up quicker, any suggestions? Do not really want to go double coil, single is fine, but anything over 35W gives a terrible burnt taste.

Ni80 heats up pretty quick so don't know what else to suggest, you could try adjusting your preheat setting in your mod, usually the options are:
Normal
Medium (try this)
High

If you want to avoid the burnt taste the best coils I use are SS316L and Temperature Control which means no burning / dry hits once set right.

I'm currently using the Oumier Wasp Nano RTA which is single coil and superb flavour and performance in TC mode.
